Rules revisited with warrior point value

Postby metalspider » October 5th, 2021, 4:17 pm

After playing Hero Quest again and again with different players each time, I realized that it is very easy for the good side to win (almost all of the time) and that becomes a little boring.
Therefore I created a simple matlab simulation in order to give some value points to the pieces (either barbarian or orc).

So I created a test: How many Goblins can a Barbarian kill before he succumbs in own wounds (if he fights one goblin a time) ? The answer after 10,000 trials is: almost 12. That means that the value of a barbarian should be 12times the value of a goblin.

After these tests for all heroes / monster combinations (upgrading gear has been taken into account) I am proud to present the warrior/value matrix.

WARRIORS VALUE
WIZARD 55
WIZARD 2Att*2Def 95
WIZARD 1Att*3Def 70
WIZARD 2Att*3Def 120

ELF 85
ELF 3Att*2Def 110
ELF 2Att*3Def 110
ELF 3Att*3Def 143

DWARF 65
DWARF 3Att*2Def 87
DWARF 2Att*3Def 87
DWARF 3Att*3Def 115

BARBARIAN 100
BARBARIAN 4Att*2Def 115
BARBARIAN 3Att*3Def 130
BARBARIAN 3Att*4Def 167
BARBARIAN 4Att*4Def 195

GOBLIN 7.7
ORC 15
FIMIR 16.5
CHAOS WARRIOR 18
GARGOYLE 26.5
SKELETON 8.5
ZOMBIE 9.5
MUMMY 18

FOR A FAIR FIGHT AN EXPERIENCED DUNGEON MASTER SHOULD KEEP THIS RATIO EVIL / GOOD AT 90% (SLIGHTLY FAVORITE THE GOOD SIDE)

If this point system is taken into account from the Dungeon Master then the Good side almost all the time wins the dungeon but not easily (and sometimes they leave a man behind)

Have you tried the same with using a different monster instead? I was wondering if it would give different results for higher defense values.

Yes, I have. And yes it gives different results. The values that I mentioned are average from a plus or minus 3 points. By experience though, it gives a boost to the game, making it better and more challenging. Also it is based on European times where all the monsters have 1hit point.

The "solution" to the good side having it too easy are expansions like Wizards of Morcar, the Dark Company and EQP/BQP... super strong monsters (and lots of them), nasty traps, chaos spells galore, lots of deadly stuff. Yes, you can sometimes hire mercs, but that costs gold and they are soft targets.
