I saw a TV ad. here in UK for a domestic cleaning product called “Total Blast”. I thought, what a great name for a spell, and after further thought and research, came up with this quest. If I offend the Purists, I apologise profusely, but lets face it, just a bit of fun for an ageing Grandpa and his young Grandson.
Enter The Janitor
janitor spells.doc
When Sir Ragnar was killed, his lands and castle were seized by the King. The castle was in a poor state, so the King abandoned it, sharing the lands out with his cronies. The castle serfs gradually drifted away, finding other work. Finally, the only one left was The Janitor. He spent many hours in the castle library, learning from an ancient spell book, the Domestos Doomsday Compendium of Spells, and also a book on hand-to-hand combat. He gathered around him a gang of malcontents, and ne’er-do-wells. They have recently started to go out into the countryside, stealing food, money and arms from the local villages. The King got to hear of this, and has summoned, you, his Heroes, to clean out this nest of thieves. Go forth, and do your duty!
Pasta, a Dwarf; Brocalin, a Barbarian; Silva, an Elf; and Roland, the Paladin, answer the Call to Arms! Pasta leads from the front, and soon finds hisself in a Pit Trap whilst attacking a Ne’er-do-well, a peasant swordsman.
Roland searches a Grave, rolls a 6 on the red dice, and up jumps a Skel, which immediately attacks him, costing him a BP. He kills it on his next move, and we journey on. He searches for treasure in a room we clear of peasants, and finds a W-M. Mon Dieu, it’s Sir Ragnars’ skeleton.

After a short skirmish, Silva, shouting, “this is going to hurt you more than it does me” casts Fires of Wrath on the Sir Ragnar, but he rolls a Black Shield in defence! He fights on. The Paladin gets in on the act, performs a Greater Miracle, Aura of Sanctity, on Sir Ragnar. He has no defence, so is no more (for the moment). Our Heroes clear out a room filled with Malcontents and Ne’er-do-wells, and find a Treasure Chest. This contains 100 Gold and a Magic Treasure. The Dwarf tentatively draws a Magic Treasure card held forth by Morcar, it is a Magic Sponge. (As all you sporting types know, this will recover two Body Points). Our Heroes fight on, they reach an oaken door, and the Dwarf turns the knob, and unveils Sir Ragnars’ Family Ossuary.

In the Ossuary, the Heroes find Sir Ragnars tomb, and the Screaming Skull, he who guards’ these ancient relics.
The SS has variable BP, so Morcar asks Our Heroes to roll a red dice to determine his fate. Would you believe a six! The Heroes rush to attack, the Elf casts the Genie, only two hits, SS defends well, only losing 1 BP. The Dwarf shapes up to SS, in passing he gives the Elf a rub-down with the Magic Sponge, restoring 2 BP. Roland follows to attack, he makes a Magic Pass and performs the Greater Miracle “Atonement”. The SS must miss a turn, but his own magic kicks in. A Skeleton emerges from the Tomb and attacks the cowering Elf. The Magic Sponge effect is lost in this attack, the Elf is back to 1 BP. Brocolin the Barbarian attacks the helpless SS, who falls to 1 BP.

Silva attacks the SS, it goes down in its death throes, fully kippered. The Heroes fight on and clear the room. They journey on, and the Barbarian opens a door and finds the Loo.
As first in, he has the honour of searching the facilities. He rolls a Combat Dice, a white shield, Yuk, Nothing! The Dwarf pushes past and finds a Secret Door into a room, containing a cupboard. He searches the furniture, and finds some gold and a Magic treasure. Morcar offers the cards, he draws---- a Magic Spray, (this one again for the Sports Fans). It will restore 2 BP.
On his move, he succours the Elf with his Magic Spray, the Elf is back to 3 BP. We battle on. The Paladin joins his pals grouped around a doorway, fighting a group of swordsmen in the passage. He performs the Greater Miracle, Aura of Greater Retribution, this gives his buddies two extra attack dice, until the aura is broken. The Barbarian succumbs to the swordsmen, but the Paladin performs Miracle of Reincarnation on him, so he leaps back to life with 1 BP only. The Heroes trudge on, Roland fails to roll the required skull on his turn, so the Aura of Retribution is broken. They finally arrive at the Janitors Lair.

The doorway is protected with a pit trap, and the foolhardy Barbarian dies when attempting to jump it. The remaining Heroes roll for movement, but fail to reach the Janitor. He plays the spell, Total Blast, on the dwarf, but he defends well. The Dwarf ripostes, the Janitor casts Sink Unblocker, manages one black skull with the spell. The Paladin successfully jumps the Pit, attacks Janitor, two skulls. The Janitor plays Zero Limescale. The two Peasant Swordsmen guarding the Janitor, chase the Elf, who has decided to flee. One falls into the Pit, the other is safely across. The two Heroes left in the Lair attack the Janitor, he falls to 3 BP. The Elf turns on his pursuer, attacks and kills the Peasant. The Paladin attacks again, two hits, our Janitor is down to 1 BP. He plays Germ Blast Lavender, his finest spell, and escapes to fight another day. The Heroes find a Weapons Rack and are grateful for a fine Shield thereon. The next door finds them outside the castle, so they are ready to re-group. Long Live The Janitor!.
