As harsh as the Mind Point version of the card is, it actually allows a chance for Wizards, Elves and other magic users. We often houserule that Heroes can drop an item to be picked up by another Hero, so if we house rule that they can leave it in a place, they still have to get it back out to the stairs or the exit to spend it. At that point, the card is reshuffled into the treasure deck, and we stop worrying about the "curse," as it's too much to keep up with between quests, and they'll likely spend it right away. (for some poor shopkeeper to stare at until they starve to death!)

Having an item where the player has to choose between cash and being able to participate gives them an interesting dilemma. You could also them roll a die everytime they try to get rid of it, with a reasonable chance of failure.

Here is another treasure item with a similar mechanic, although less harsh than the dazzling gemstone:

(repurposed the art for the Elven Cloak of Passage, because it's sort of a wimpy item as-is)

I love the carpet!
Reminds me of the dungeons I have thrown where all the 'treasure' was large bulky items like statues, tapestries, rugs, large vases and huge parlor paintings.
{first time I did that the players completely missed the boat that the statues and paintings were worth a fortune. After they exited the dungeon they whined incessantly about how poor the payoff in the dungeon was. Just a few gold and silver coins in ork pockets.}
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

The carpet is great. :D
Now we know why there is a carpet overlay.

I am not able to fight when I transport a carpet. How about you?

Losing your turn would be very frustration after a while and they'd get left behind or hold everyone up. Maybe just let them move or make them choose move or action, not both.

I created this card mock-up that uses Mind Points with an alternate Gemstone. The move penalty of this card is harsh on weak-minded Heroes, so I gave a chance to discard it. The Talisman of Lore would certainly be desired to help counteract the negative effect.

In a forgotten corner you find a
dazzling jewel worth 135 gold coins.
Whenever you move, this gem might
draw your gaze to its splendor;
discount any movement die rolled
above your Mind Point total. You may
discard this card if both dice are
doubles and not discounted. If you
keep this card, mark the gold coins
on your sheet after the Quest and
return it to the deck.

I am happy to announce that my selfmade treasure deck has arrived today and the dazzling gemstone is part of it.

Image

I am quite amazed to see that the spontaneous mobile phone picture of a chinese print has a higher quality than lots of the scans of original game cards. There are worlds between the technology of back there and today, really. If you click on the photo you may see it in the full resolution.

This was also the test for the printer, so they are now the supplier of the rest of my cards. Yay! :)

Yes.

They are not all like that, i'd like to add. After revisiting all the cards, it was a bad idea to add the EU border on front and back. Some are cut a little bit off the center, so having no border would mean you wouldn't see the failure. Having the border means you can see exactly how much off the center they cut the card.

So NA Format is the way to go. It's less beautiful but fail safe. Well. One learns.
