knightkrawler wrote:And Trolls as the big bad/elite monster? Talking 4 AD/4 DD plus regeneration special rule?
In addition to Kobold 1 AD/2 DD including ranged attack and Fimir 3 AD/3 DD that makes a pretty decently balanced monster core.

Magic user: Fimir Shaman and/or Kobold Spellcaster

Also, a lot of Zombies (Fir Bolg, undead from the bog).
There you go, I pitched an idea in this my era of lack of creativity.

Nice idea. If we were to use kobolds, they should be the footfolk of another faction. Fimir are fine. We can divide goblins with the orcs, and the kobolds with the fimir.
Both factions would need a spellcaster and a boss though. Orc Shaman and Orc Warlord perhaps (or an Ogre!) and for the Fimir a Fimm Meargh (spellcaster) and as a boss perhaps a small dragon / dragonkin. Not as an elite endboss though. Just a tiny dragon.

I still like the idea of having the 4 chaos Gods as major grand Evil.

And there are 25 quests here people, plenty of room for Skaven :)

Man this next poll will be very difficult...
Goblins - yes - with alternative weapons such as a bow or spear too?
Orcs yes - with alternative weapons such as a crossbow too?
Orc special monsters such as a Shaman (WoM) and a Boss?

Kobolds?
Kobold Spellcasters?
Fimir - yes
Fimir Spellcasters?
Fimm Bosslike creature? Small Dragon(kin)?

Undead - yes
Alternative weapons for skeletons?
Undead spellcaster? Necromancer (WoM)?

Skaven? (I certainly would like them)
Skaven with alternative weapons? (they already have melee and slings mind you!)
Skaven elites? (assassins and such, not a big fan myself)
Skaven spellcasters? White Seer from Durrag Dol?
Rat Ogres?

Trolls? stats?
Ogres? with fixed stats perhaps? How many classes?

Chaos faction:
Chaos Warriors - yes
Chaos Sorcerer - yes, with Chaos Spells!
Chaos Beastmen? Would make good footsoldiers. With alternative weapons?
Chaos Dwarves? I'd like these a lot.
Chaos Bosses? (4 Avatars of the 4 Gods?)
Gargoyle starring as a Bloodthirster of Khorne?

The Grand Master Evil Boss Avatar of Damnation and Chaos:
Which monster to pick? Giant Dragon? Bloodthirster? Kaladrax? C'thulhu? Hello Kitty?

Man, I would not know how to make a poll out of this mess xD.

Also, what I'd like to add:
As much as I like the Chaos Dwarf idea, the appropriate miniatures - ALL of them - are just too freakin' expensive.
The Mantic Abyssal Dwarfs are certainly not everyone's cup of tea designwise. Caution advised.

YOU DON'T SAY! Gee wiz! This is news to me!

I don't hate skaven by any means, but this is my thought exactly.

tasoe wrote:What I mean is, I like that the undead are skeleton<zombie<mummy in terms of power and not skeleton warrior<skeleton champion<skeleton lord. That's why I don't like the ogre naming thing. It's so uninspired.
About special abilities, I would like to see diagonal attacks, 2 attacks, only simple things.
Nothing like that stupid ice gremlin thing where he steals your items, or the huggy bear from the frozen horror pack.
Only a boss should have good strong abilities, like a move/attack/move ability. That's way too good for a regular monster.
Ah, got'cha. I actually agree.
I wouldn't mind at all cutting the assassin from my example (it was indeed an example!). I don't like the ogre formula in particular either.
Maybe a giant snake/cave worm/crystal serpent instead...?
I DO think troop + leader/sorcerer is acceptable though.

Special abilities are a thin line... I think it's all about overall power. Chaos warriors have 4/4/3 A/D/BP but no special abilities. Are they not OP?
The monsters should foremost be fun and balanced to play against.
The problem with Ice Gremlins is that their ability is annoying, not fun. It's not a problem it has an ability.
Same goes for game breaking hug-ability.

Side note. A little funny how the quest packs are actually all over the place:
* Non-GW monsters (ice gremlin etc.)
* Monsters with variant weapons (Elf archer and swordsman)
* Pack with only one kind of monster (different ogres)
* Pack with only old monsters (KK RotWL)
* Class upgrade of existing monster (orc shaman)

I think it's safe to say we have a lot of freedom in creating a monster group while still sticking to past formulas..

Hmm, I'd avoid these kind of subdivisions too. Just a basic beastman with a melee weapon, a beastman shaman, and when you want to go tougher, use a minotaur. Keep it simple.
Even the stormvermin would be a tad too much in my opinion..

I see kk was busy at the same time :)

Nice job on monsters. But one problem I have is the lack of something that sets them apart from the classic monsters.

Stormvermin
Body: 1, Mind: 2, Attack: 3, Defend: 3, Move: 6

It's basically just a re-skinned fimir.

(Aren't you guys at work by the way? I had a lesson cancelled. What's your excuses ).

Totally agree. The names of the monster must be simple and indicating of what the model is. Gor, ungor and bestigor should not be considered. I'll use them for my homebrew quests however as most of my players are now accustomed to these names.
