I like 4 and 5. Undecided on those two though. :)

forgot to say option 4 wont really work. you cant see from the image provided but the right hand will settle very close to the knee. not leaving much room for a 'spell' hand
Image
it would basically end up looking like he is about to rest his hand on his knee......

It could work, but it would require redoing the forearm so the hand is pointed away from his knee. I dunno how feasible that would be, regardless.

Option 5 will no doubt look great. Spell and sword is what he does, even the original can be considered to indicate this.

I'm not sure if it's just me or the pic, but the lower legs under the knees seem a bit short for an Elf. It's just an impression I got, and now I can't shake it.

Question: Why didn't you plan ahead what you wanted to do with him? Didn't you make a sketch or something?

He is described as being a master of both swords and magic. Not too much magic going on prancing about like RA Salvatore's Chaotic Good Wish-Fulfillment Fantasy.

Poses don't seem to be your thing. The only way to get good at something is to keep at it. The Elf pose is better than the Dwarf's "Hey, what's that over there? Do you think I'll need this axe?" pose.

yeah. but my mind changed when i got so far. was never fully convinced what i wanted to do. pkus drawing something out in massive scale seems to count for very little other than anatomy reference once you shrink it down to crazy small size and have to actually sculpt it :)

most likely the picture. he is crouching somewhat so im guessing you wont get the perspective look to it. i used tight measurements on this one so to get the anatomy right. however 1mm one way or the other can make a huge difference.....still only my 3rd ever sculpt bare in mind too...im most definitely no expert hehe

Of course the Elf is described as equally good a fighter and mage, and a mini symbolizing this is a nice idea. But in the (in-game) "reality" he either fights or casts spells (not both at the same time), and we instinctly know this. A figure with sword ready and in a fighting stance, but with a "spell hand" would look odd to me. So please, don't bother with the "spell hand". Give him an off-hand weapon or make a fist. It's simpler, and would look better.

chaoticprime wrote:Poses don't seem to be your thing.

The pose is extremely well done. The elf seems full of tension, ready to spring into action. He has his weight distributed between engaged and free leg in a dynamic and even convincing ("realistic") manner. There are details which are extremely well done for a beginner, but one could complain (the left arm seems a little too long, the nose is in my opinion too prominent for an elf) - but the pose is perfect by all means.
As a sidenote - compare it to this totally stiff and liveless "professional" piece (even when obviousely representing an "infight" pose) which someone seems to like so much.
Have a look ;)
