Perhaps we should soon have a "Fimir Appreciation Week" here at Ye Olde Inn?

Fimirs are my favorite monster in the game (rape and penis jokes aside), but they are in fact seriously underused.
In all the official quests there isn't a single fimir special character or boss.
We get ONE fimir who knows a spell and that's that. He isn't even named.

Well.....not entirely true. There's a long debate about this....even though these passages are in the book:

"...suddenly it drew itself up to a great height, and its wings were spread from wall to wall..."

They didn't. That debate has been made. The latter mentioned "wings" are still the shadowy-simile-wings from the former description.

I have to agree. "like two wings".
What spreads out can be interpreted as that.
Or as literal wings.
Or as the impression the baffled and frightened (to say the least) observer gets when the thing takes off from the ground.

It's all interpretation, so there's debate. Personally, I see those wings as shadows or smoke or something. Darkness incarnate.

The wing debate is so prevalent, it's cited on the Balrog Wikipedia page!

Based on the language used to describe Ents and their movement, I'd be more incline to feel Tolkien meant "wings" metaphorically, but that doesn't stop me from imagining the Balrog with actual wings :)
