That video is a thing of beauty. It's the sole reason I'm into gaming, I saw it when I was very young. Looking back at it, ugh, it's so campy and poorly made. But I can't help being nostalgic about it. If it weren't for that silly thing, I would never have played Dragon Strike, HeroQuest, D&D, Vampire, and so forth.

Nostalgia is a great thing. I had put my HeroQuest game down for near a decade before a flat mate of mine noticed I had it during college. He had a copy at home he hadn't touched in years. From there, we played some quests, made some quests, and I started getting into it more and more. I gathered a couple friends together and started a few gaming groups, then made some more quests, starting looking online for more contents, ordered more quest packs off the Internet and my interests kept growing. Then I delved into Web designing, started my own personal website, had a small forum with a HeroQuest section, which Phoenix joined. Then he introduced me to the HQ community. Shortly there after, Agin's Inn went down and Phoenix coaxed me into reviving it...

It's amazing what spawns from a little nostalgia. Even a poor quality video with even worse acting (still love that Dragon Master's narrative skills) turns into great fantasy gaming for years to come. The image on the back of the HeroQuest box is what started it all for me. Just saw the game in a retailer decades ago, picked it up and flipped it over. The image of the cheesy looking kids adventuring through a table top dungeon had me sold. Took a bit of saving up for it though.

Oh man, I love the Dragon Master. When I found my copy of Dragon Strike and ran it for my college friends, I insisted on wearing a black turtleneck, and had them watch the videotape before we played.

Needless to say, when I busted out HeroQuest, they asked if I was going to don the Dragon Master's turtleneck again.
