I noticed this too when playing, but I didn't actually go all the way to count tiles. The 4 square dinosaur bones in an adjacent room with the 4 square forest tile.

There are other mistakes in this quest book. I'm not gonna go back and search the booklet right now, but there are.s to be some quests with either missing doors or they tell you to go to the wrong quest.

Good catch, at least it wasn't just me.

Our JoD campaign is still in progress, we played them in this order so far:

Quest 1, 2, 4, 5, 7...

*Spoilers*

Quest #7 map (page 24)...

Note "B" Room calls for the 4 square "dinosaur bone" tile. This is colored in brown (implying it is meant to be the "sand" type of hindering terrain).
However, the previous room with note "C" calls for the four square forest/leafy (green) hindering terrain tile. The dinosaur bone image is the reverse side of the 4 square forest/leafy (green) hindering terrain tile and these rooms are adjacent to one another!

When you count up the forest/leafy (green) hindering tile squares in the box, there are 15 of them total. This quest uses all 15, however you can't actually display them all at the same time.

So you will run out of these proper hindering terrain tiles by the final room.

In my opinion this is a clear errata, difficult to be found if someone doesn't play the quest pack, but an errata anyway.

Good catch!

Edit: I think this problem could be easily fixed during the game if replacing the "dinosaur bone" tile by some of the smaller "sand" tiles included in the box inmmediatelly after the Raptor from room B is found by the Heroes.

Kurgan has reported me a new errata he realized in Against the Ogre Horde remake's expansion during their playthroughs in HeroQuestFans channel on Twitch.

If playing Quest 7 map (questbook, page 32) exists a chance of running out of Closed Door models if Heroes circle the central room and discover the western passage. In that case Zargon player may need up to 7 closed door models, however the Game System box include just 5 models.

This errata is inherited from the European classic version of Against the Ogre Horde questbook, where the same issue existed in The Carrion Halls Quest.

It's likely something they missed in the playtest stage. Unlike Frozen Horror, which wasn't playtested at all and you're constantly running out of doors, I feel Ogre Hoard probably was playtested, but they likely didn't count closed doors specifically, but just as long as they had enough doors in general.

The set includes two additional doors. They are, of course, the “specialty” entry/exit doors, but one could use one in place of a normal door and just state that it’s normal, provided the quest with the error doesn’t specifically use these. (I haven’t yet played AtOH, so I’m not familiar with the particular quest. I’m also not familiar with FH yet.) Depending on what other packs one has, you will have some extra “specialty” doors to place if needed. KK, RotWL, TMitM, RotDM and JoD all have two speciality doors (and in some cases portculli).

Does Jungles of Delthrak? I don't seem to recall there being one.

Against the Ogre Hoard is probably one of the better quest packs. In terms of playabIlity it was very fun. There are no artifacts in this quest pack, which seems to be the only downside. But usually whenever the heroes find a Sorcerer's Bench I let them draw a random spell scroll.

Frozen Horror, is a nightmare. The difficulty and length of the quests can get boring. This pack was never playtested and it shows. The only useful artifact outside of this quest pack are the Spell Scrolls and Amulet of the North. Ring of Warmth, Am and of Ice & Snowshoes of Speed can't really be used outside of this quest pack.

Into the Northlands (PDF version) adds several new artifacts, but all but one of them are not very useful outside of Frozen Horror.

And yes, Jungles of Delthrak didn't add any specialty doors (instead you can find them in KK, ROTWL, FH, MOTM, and ROTDM... and you've got the arena gates in ATOH which I guess can suffice).

At a certain point it seems AH abandoned the idea of including extra closed doors in the box, and just assume you'll substitute an unused closed door model when needed, even if the quest was originally written to use specifically the entrance/exit doors (see SQT, PoT, CoPD retail... and Forsaken Tunnels of Xor Xel). In the original classic line of questpacks, the cardboard inserts for the steel entrance and wooden exit doors were always included and intended to be put into one of the existing door bases with whatever was in there removed for that instance.

And really none of the expansions was intended to require other expansions (only the GS) in order to play properly, EXCEPT CoPD (which was originally a Mythic exclusive hence you had access to KK and ROTWL assets along with all the extra stretch goal figures) and in theory the Hero themed packs of 1992 were intended that you would be putting them all together to give access to all the best exclusive potions and artifacts to each of the four heroes (but at the very least you could look at other alchemist shops for the other heroes not being featured).

Re: Hero Quest 2021 Remake: Errata Compilation

Postby HispaZargon » June 14th, 2025, 6:30 pm

There are some errata already found exclusively in Spanish version of First Light (El Despertar), mainly bad translation topics:

Finally we already have in Spain the first physical copies of CoPD retail version "La Cripta de la Oscuridad Perpetua", and unfortunatelly have been already detected some errata, hopefully just exclusive of this version, but please check them if you also detect it in the English version of the expansion. Here is the list:
