Yeah he needs to be mobbed, because he can resist any damage the one time on the round with Twisting Torrent. I would say he can use it even if he's under the effects of Sleep or Tempest (or Command/Dominate).

Now the way that Multi-attacks from monsters are being handled, you could say a Polar Warbear strike might only be negated in part (he could roll defense against one of the attacks and use Twisting Torrent to negate the damage from the other) but that's also Zargon's call.

I think rules as written (with the clarifications stated by Doug Hopkins) that's how it would be handled officially.

Is this really anymore broken than the monster rules for Dark Company (where Dark Warriors and Doomguard can block ALL skulls with a single black shield in defense), or the Japanese edition where Gargoyles and (coincidentally named) Dark Warriors have 2 BP and can only be killed if they sustain 2 damage from a single attack (or else the lost BP heals by the time the next hero can attack)? Granted neither of those have been implemented into the remake rules (yet!).

The Monk seems powerful, and he is, but he is also limited in how much more he can grow, as he is limited in weapons and can't add any armor, so mostly he will be collecting potions and mercenaries after awhile.

In favor of the japanese edition most weapons had one more attack dice so killing a gargoyle/chaos warrior wan´st has hard (staff or dagger had 2, spear, axe and short word 3, broad sword 4). So even the wizard could kill them with a lucky attack (2 skulls from 2 dices is once every 4 attacks so).

By the way, I have the monk and it seems a bit overpowered, yes, but is for advanced players. But it has a low progression.

Very handy as a one-off for someone who joins your table randomly in the middle of a campaign I imagine. He could also serve as an NPC. Of course the same is true for any of the new hero characters.

I’ve been using the Monk as part of my Spirt Queen’s Torment run on the companion app. The Monk is pretty awesome so far, I’m even thinking of using her for FH when I get to it. So far the Monk is dependable for treasure searching and disarming traps, since she can negate the damage from hazards, wandering monsters, and failed disarm attempts. The ability to use a Crossbow is great, as she can use that most of the time if she can’t use Strength of Mountain, or the whirlwind attack (can’t remember what its called atm). I haven’t had the opportunity to use any of the Fire styles yet, but all the others I have used frequently. The Monk is just so versatile they can do anything.

I’ll see what happens when the quests get tougher, but so far she is great. Too bad the Monk can’t use spears, but in the remake the only spears are the Ice Queen’s Spear, and the Dragon Spear. I might just let the Monk use the Ice Queen’s Spear anyway since a spear is a common weapon in kung fu movies.

Wouldn't a female equivalent to a Monk be a Nun?

May-be?? I'm not certain if that nomenclature applies in eastern traditions or if it's pretty much a western/christian thing. In most fantasy gaming settings you probably won't find the gender separation in monastic practices that exists in the real world.

Actually yes, female monastics in the Tibetan order are called 'gelongma,' and this is roughly equivalent to our English term "Nun."

40K had sister and brotherhoods so it's not out of the question even in mainstream games. The great thing about HQ, it's vague so easy to make up your own lore about it!

I think we have got passed the stage where we had to have a masculine/feminine version of everything - like we don't use warrioress or wizardess anymore (or in more day-to-day terms, manageress, headmaster/headmistress became headteacher, etc) and we can stick with one term for any gender.
