Kurgan wrote:100% disagree. Round bases may be "standard" in popular miniatures today, but squares bases are still widely available. Reaper sells them, every major game shop (that was still open before Covid19) carried them. It's not like they would have to climb Mt. Doom to forge new ones. Its true that "Facing the enemy" doesn't matter at all in this game, but that also means there's no need to have the ability to "rotate" the character. Square bases fit the squares on the board. They could have done a "circles" board, but they didn't. Anyway, it's not a huge deal, but again, a nod to the original that would have required zero effort and zero extra cost.
We don't have nostalgia for the prototypes because nobody had them all these years to play with outside of Gamesworkshop designers.

Especially with the potential options from Zealot miniatures and their square plastic bases. I’m actually considering stocking up on some of the Zealot Miniature bases to convert the hasbro version to square classic style. Or creating my own with thick plasticard. (Though that would mean base conversions... so there is that ... and they wouldn’t align with either the old plastic square GW bases, or the newer circular style. Decisions, decisions.)
Kurgan wrote:I agree they look very cool. Awesome, even. However the actual spells are pretty weak sauce compared to what we see. Ball of Flame, the strongest fire spell, has a chance to do up to 2 Body Points of damage, which doesn't kill a Chaos Warrior (3 Body Points). Yet the images show these Elementals, not just standing there looking menacing, but toppling buildings, destroying towns, crushing castles, etc. It would be like an image of the Barbarian cutting a watchtower in half with his broadsword or the Wizard blowing up a mansion with his staff... looks cool but way out of the scale of power of the actual gameplay. In other words it's not "I play 'Summon Godzilla' " rather "I toss a little fireball that does some damage about like a standard attack against a foe that's below my own level."

Goblin-King wrote:My point wasn't so much round vs squares, but more against the specific original HQ-bases with the bevel (or whatever that little step is called).
While I do prefer round bases, I would have been okay with square bases, as long as they'd fit within the board's squares (which the god damn original bases couldn't even manage)
But there's really no reason to create unique bases that are so hard to come by. Thantos is a cool dude and I love Zealot Miniatures; but the fact that one small 3rd party company sells these, isn't exactly what I would call widely available.

Like a cleric in D&D drawing powers from his god - but he obviously won't be as powerful AS a god.

RipoffQuest = Game Zone 25th anniversary HeroQuest
