boy - you go away for a week on vacation and miss all kinds of stuff.
I like the idea - looks like joec took to it full-force. If I get to it, I may make
some alternate questbooks too - like drathe said - itd be nice to have multiple
alternates for people to use, yes?

joec - they look great - and I also like your creativity on the small rooms and splitting
up the chests. good job.

The idea is bright!
It'd be useful to have .xml files of the alternate quests.
Cheers

The Fire Mage (quest 8):

Slight tweaks, more traps. I'd have tried more, but I can't figure out how to make the XX square in Heroscribe.

joec wrote:Okay guys -- Idea time!

I just thought about something, since my Wizard player didn't make it through The Trial.

What about doing a group project to create the questbooks, but with alternate layouts, so that if you need to redo a quest, it's not as easy for the players who played through it previously?

Thoughts?

I'm in the process of making alternative quests as well I got Alternative quests 1-5 done for the game system check this thread for my alternative quest for The Trialhttp://forum.yeoldeinn.com/viewtopic.php?f=161&t=325

I too like the idea of splitting up the chests. Which got me to thinking there should be a rule that when carrying a chest back to the stairway A hero can only role one red die for movement. You could also put in a rule saying that setting the chest down uses an action. While carrying a chest you can't attack and can only role one die to defend. If a hero sets a chest down a monster can pick it up and take it away to the stairway and escape. If this happens the Quest would not be completed because all three chests have to be returned. Just some thoughts to think about. Movement and Battle rules would have to be created for a monster carrying a chest as well.

I am playing Hero Quest tommorow Night. If we get to this quest I think I might incorparate these rules and possibly use your alternative quest you made!

Just read the quest notes for Prince Magnus Gold and I see the movement rule about one red die when carrying a chest is already established!

Here is an idea for a new Quest Parchement and Notes you could use for Prince Magnus Gold
Quest 4
Prince Magnus' Gold

"Three treasure chest have been stolen whle being taken to the Emperor.
A reward of 240 Gold Coins has been offered to any group of Heroes who return
the ALL three chests and ALL of the gold. You have traveled to the Lair of a well
known band of Orcs in the Black Mountains. They are lead by Gulthor a Chaos Warrior.
Be careful because this band of devoted choas creatures and Gulther will try to escape
with the treasure chests if they feel their lair has been compromised. This can not happen"

Rules for Carrying chests
Heroes:
Only 1 red die for movement
Picking up and setting chest down uses up Heroes Action for that turn
When holding chest you cannot attack and can only roll one combat die in defense
Monsters:
Gulthor is strong enough to move 6 spaces per turn while carrying a chest
All other monster move half their alloted movement spaces per turn (rounded up if odd)
Picking up and setting chest down uses up Mosnters Action for that turn
When holding chest a monster cannot attack and can only roll one combat die in defense

A: When any hero opens the door to a room with chest on the monsters next turn
a monster in that room will try to escape to the spiral stairway with Prince Magnus treasure chest.
Each chest is marked with the Princ's royal seal and contains 250 gold coins and other items of value
to the Prince and the Emperor. The Quest is only complete if all three chests are returned by heroes to
the spiral stairway. If even one chest is removed by a monster the Hero's can not keep the contents
inside.

Picking up and setting chest down uses up Monsters Action for that turn
When holding a chest a monster cannot attack and can only roll one combat die in defense
When carrying a chest a monster can open up any door or secret door he comes across.

(If, one, two, or all three chests were taken out of the Quest by monsters you could create an entire
new quest on retrieving the missing chests to be played later on in the Quest Book.)

Skulmar, did you run this version or the one in the questbook? I'm intrigued.
