Thanks for that! That is one helluva big book to plough through, and that was the rulebook for WHQ!?!? oh, my Goddess... I'd never manage that... Looks cool though!

Exactly...
Of course, if we're gonna make quests and quest packs, they have to be coherent in themselves; if you play with one group all the time you're gonna have to build up some kind of coherence in the bigger picture I guess, but that depends on the group.
But there is no reason I can think of to cuddle up between the limits and borderlines a money-cow company builds up for some of their other games, and Shame Workshop, at that.

I just like to inspect maps like that, and select locations for quest settings. When you can show your players a map, it makes the experience more "real".
I'm gonna try and find out where all the official and semi official quests take place. Karak Varn = kellar's keep for example. Karak Four Peaks is on the maps as well (it's a fanmade quest on the website here). Durrag Dol should be there too.
Maps inspire me to make new quests in new areas, such as Araby (Egyptian HQ board!) with lots of undead, and Skaven lairs in the mountains between Brittannia and the Empire, etc.
Then I just make up my own stories.

Every company needs to make money or else why do they work? But I am not going to buy a book of hundreds of pages just for the 10 of them with only the history of the world. A good book with the Lore should have locations of interest, descriptions, historical events, habits of people, famous NPCs, and all these things can create stories in your mind by just reading them. That kind of books are not necessary, they are just for inspiration, other people can be inspired from films, or novels, or maybe by painting miniatures or making dioramas, or by all of them... And of course you don’t have to follow any rules… The Drizzt of Forgotten Realms is a dark elf with good alignment… It’s as we say, a good Chaos Warrior…

I know all these are too much for a war game, and the information is not gathered in a book but to many books, here and there, and I guess with not the detail that I want.

About the Warhammer Quest’s book, the only mention about the world is on a page posted on the first post of this thread… the third image...

I agree with Sjeng, even if you are just showing to your players “where they are” and “where they have to go”, they start to think about “what are we going to face there?”, “undead?”, “dwarves?”… They start to imagine things and the game has already begun.

So I've been searching for Barak Tor and Kalos on the maps, but can't find it... Kalos seems to be somewhere in the desert, so that means south, but does anyone know where these two locations are?

Can't find Durrag-Dol either, it's supposed to be in the World's Edge Mountains, but that's a big area :)

Is the basic rule book (8th edition) in it? I mean, the full version?? I've seen many sources for it, but none of these had the world description. The big rulebook has around 500 pages, about half of which is the rules. People tend to scan only these, omitting the world description, figure photos, and the rules for playing longer campaings with storyline and gamemaster - which is a pity, but at least tolaerable when you only want to play the tabletop game, but renders the whole thing useless if you search for background information for HQ.
