Daggers

This is what happens when you haven't played the game in more than a decade and take a newbie's word for what the text says:
we've been doing daggers wrong the whole time (we're now on Quest 13). The Wizard has been buying them with all the group's gold and instead of normal attack, he chucks a dagger at an enemy causing it instant 1BP damage.
There was no roll to see if he hit and no defense roll for the monster.
I'm pretty sure that is wrong, yes?
Does a Hero have to roll to see if the dagger hit? Does the monster get a defense roll?

Yes, as explained in the
other thread, a dagger is simply a 1 combat die weapon, that can be used as a normal weapon for adjacent attacks (not diagonal), OR it may be thrown at an enemy in your line of sight. But you still have to roll 1 combat die, ánd monsters may defend as usual.

Yikes, it's going to be fun telling the Wizard that monsters get to defend now.

Well, in the KK and RotWL quest packs, there are Magic Throwing Daggers that allows the thrower to inflict an automatic 1-point damage without rolling for attack or defense, and like normal daggers, they are lost once thrown. Being Artifacts items, they must be found in the adventures, and are not for sale, so players cant just waste them like some wannabe Naruto character. Oh, and anyone can use daggers - normal or otherwise.

Actually, those daggers do allow 1 defense die to be rolled, but I believe those were only added in the US expansions. I did however make EU format cards of all those artifacts, so if you have a EU set and want those artifacts, check the
cards section of the forum.

Malcadon has it right. Zenithfleet made the changes you describe in his EU cards, which were based off of the original NA artifact.
The NA card:

Second on what Sjeng said about a normal dagger. The link didn't work for me, so here's what is listed for the dagger entry on the Armory board that details all of the weapons of the Main System:
This sharp knife gives you the attack
strength of 1 combat die. A dagger can
also be thrown at any monster you can
"see," but it is lost once it is thrown.
Nothing there about no defense for monsters.

Darn, I missed that! I thought Zenithfleet's version was the original one xD but I kinda agree that that's very OP for EU monsters. It's fine for US monsters though.
Anyone else with problems with the link?

My players always covet the magical throwing daggers. They are the best way to bring down the Witch Lord at the end of RotWL.

Talking daggers: Do you allow throwing daggers over a table?
