While you are correct that jumping a trap works in the NA version, I had also checked the harder-to-parse EU version.

Characters and monsters may attempt to jump across a pit trap. They must have enough movement to get across the pit, counting the pit square as one space. . . .
The section title is misleading. Though a pit is part of a pit trap, they are not exactly the same thing. A pit is only the resulting obstacle once triggered; it is not also the other state, a found element (a one-square pit not yet triggered) represented by a removable pit tile placed on the board:

My interpretation goes as follows: A Hero finds a pit trap marked on the Quest map and so Morcar places a pit trap tile at the board location. Knowing where this potentially dangerous obstacle is located, he can jump the pit trap/pit square as per the first cited rule above rather than attempting a disarm attempt or voluntarily stumbling into it.
I should mention that I've never played the EU rules. While I consider my judgement handicapped by lack of experience, I also feel my assessment is unburdened by previous play bias. So feel free to accept or reject my interpretation, of course. Unlike the print in the Rules of Play, I understand that everything is not all black and white.
