For the NPCs, the typical soldier is only 1-2 BP (and a 3 BP monster is considered "strong"), but you could reason that Heroes are the most exceptional examples of these individuals.
Yes, I think Guard Knights should be like the Elf (6 BPs, 3 spells/skills) but with better equipment (shield) as payment for having 1 Mind Point less. It is not a 100% balanced homebrew solution but it is more balanced than the official stats compared with the rest of heroes.

According to my homebrew difficulty calculation model, these Knights may cost 1.57 times the official NA price of a Swordman mercenary (the one with the two handed sword, 100 coins), so around 160 gold coins, 3.14 times the official NA price of a Scout mercenary (50 coins).
