Sorry I'm dashing this off and not using the official names that I don't have memorized yet...
The cards basically tell you whether they are or not. For example the water abilities can't possibly be separate actions... one triggers when you take damage (if you want to of course, and it's available to use)... while the other lets you split your action and movement (meaning you have another action, then someone will ask "does this mean I can use a second "style" as that action? I don't see why not, assuming use of that style is the action).
With earth, Strength of the Mountain is an enhancement to your unarmed attack. Likewise the air one that lets you hit in all 8 directions unarmed is also an attack enhancement. It works immediately for that attack, you don't "cast" it then wait until your next attack to get the benefit.
The search Traps & Secret doors as a single action I guess you could count as an action in and of itself (or else an enhancement to the search action you were going to use). You can't use it then also do a second action in the same turn because that was your action.
Fire: when you use the beam that's an action akin to casting a spell (very similar to lightning, except no friendly fire risk) or an enhancement to an attack.
The air one that lets you jump a trap I would not treat as an action because jumping a trap is NOT an action, it's simply part of the movement phase of your turn (a movement enhancement).
So it would seem you can use more than one style per turn HOWEVER the "Using Elemental Styles" card settles this by declaring that "once per turn, choose on technique to activate." So it's not saying you can't do an action if the technique wasn't one, but you only get one Style per turn.
Of course (unless you're using mods) you are not going to be able to attack an enemy and then the enemy attacks you back, doing damage, and then you try to use the Water to avoid the damage but can't because you used a technique already that turn. But you might be stopped if you jumped a trap to reach an enemy and then thought you would attack them, sorry, can't do the enhanced attack now.
You are not going to trigger a wandering Monster by searching with the technique because only Treasure searches trigger wandering Monsters. Yes, I suppose you might, in Frozen Horror or Mage of the Mirror be walking, trigger a Wandering Monster trap and use the Water technique to avoid damage THEN use your action (you get an action but no more movement when triggering those wandering monster traps which only occur in corridors in those packs) to try to attack them with an enhanced attack... sorry, no enhanced attack.
I'll have to watch carefully but I'm pretty sure we've been following it correctly, since we've been using the Monk in ROTDM, but we also use mods that sometimes allow for counter attacks or whatever so I may have forgotten once or twice to do it "properly."
Another thing that some people miss is the techniques resetting... this happens at the start of the Monks turn if he can't see monsters (I treat "see" as line of sight, whether obstructed by another figure or furniture piece or not... NOT referring to any monster on the board keeping it active). He can't "use an action" to reset them automatically, he would have to run away or wait until monsters are eliminated (if monsters run away, same effect).
