The only other Dragon in HeroQuest that I recall was in the first Dave Morris novel (Fellowshop of Four, 1991, narrative section), hinted to be massive, but Encarmine stated a few times in the GenCon interview that he didn't consider those canon anymore in regards to their new lore timeline.

I think they ought to hire the guy back to write some new ones!

They should hire all the guys back that worked on HQ. They could mine the old content for years of rereleases if they wanted too. But they will probably add elements of the non canon stuff to future releases I'm sure. Reminds me of how Disney decanonized the SW EU and then still took elements from it anyway for their new content lol

Yeah but hopefully they wouldn't do it in such a, shall we say, shoddy, fashion as the above mentioned Disney, otherwise I hear what you're saying. Preserve as much of the nostalgic stuff as possible. I doubt a lot of fans even know the names of the people who worked on a lot of this stuff (especially those outside the original region it was released in) but at the same time knowing that they're bringing some "old school star power" to the project could be a really cool thing. I hadn't heard the name "Stephen Baker" before the Haslab campaign began even though he was famous in board game circles with aficionados like the people who hang out on BGG surely. But knowing "this person worked on HeroQuest and was responsible for X" is a cool thing to learn and I bet it would be for a lot of fans, even if they didn't have a new active role in the next release.

It's certainly possible some of the original staff members are no longer interested (or might even have passed away) but who knows what they might be able to bring to the table even if it's just a cool interview or two. Perhaps there might be some that disagree personally with the direction of the new product, and that might be embarrassing, then again for all we know even minor disagreements would be set aside in favor of the opportunity to acknowledge this bit of their past career and help promote it for the future. I think it's probably a little more complicated than just calling them up, but who knows what they have planned. I'd certainly love to hear some of those old stories even if it never becomes "canon" again (for all that means to me in a sandbox game like this).

I think you'd probably find more of the attitude of a Craig Van Ness. Acknowledge the work you did, and that somebody else is in charge of it now, but things move forward and not getting broken up about projects that weren't finished or don't go the way they originally planned... and being happy that somebody else is keeping the brand alive and fans are generally going to be happy with it.

So you could have genuine disagreement. I think of the several ideas that Kathryn L. Connors had for Mage of the Mirror that were not used in the remake edition, but then it was also cool to see that one of her original intentions that was vetoed in the original release (that the Elven Chainmail was only for the Elf) is kind of sort of reinforced in the new edition (it's still worded a bit vague but I think the App reinforces it).

Yeah Disney was the only example I could think of. Not a great example I know lol. In a perfect world, I think all the old creators should be brought in just for brainstorming or chatting about their old works and how they would tweak it if they had to do it over. Again, in a perfect world. Although, I have a feeling that some of that was done by AH. Or as much as time and budget allowed. They seem to do their homework.

Yeah, as in the above example, they may not have Mrs. Connors on the payroll (that I'm aware) but her notes are available in their draft binders or whatever they keep those files in. They have frequent contact with Stephen Baker even if he's not hands on each each new expansion that comes out. We've been told they have good relations with their counterparts at GWS and Takara, the two other companies heavily involved in HeroQuest back in the day.

I don't know if they have contact with Mr. Morris, but it would be cool if they did!

I still do, especially as they confirm that the 'Fire of Wrath' spell can be cast without line of sight, which is of course how it should be, otherwise it's just a weak 'Ball of Flame'.

They were never HeroQuest official cannon, but there is an event in The Fellowship of the Four novel where Fire of Wraith is clearly cast to attack monsters far away the spellcaster, without any claer line of sight posible.

Moreover, on remake's Fire of Wraith spell card's illustration, it is clearly seen that the fire follows a non straight path.

Then, in my opinion there are enough signs which suggests the Fire of Wraith may be cast without any LoS, and that's how I have always played with it to become it different to the Ball of Flame, yes.

I agree, it IS pretty crappy, but I've been using it anyway. I think twice it only came in handy, used to kill a Dread Warrior and Mummy in 1 hit instead of requiring further attack. It rarely does anything of note.

So this quest pack must've been put together rather quickly without even trying to introduce new monsters, but I'm totally feeling that the Specters from Rise of the Dread Moon would have been cool monsters to introduce in these quests.
