Not a bad idea, if he actually owns the work. If he was simple contracted to create it and Hasbro/Avalon Hill retains the rights to distribute, he may have no say in the matter.
It would be cool if he could share what was intended for it, and that would leave fans to home brew whatever they want. Unfortunately I imagine they will just sit on it and this will be the last we've heard of his creation. I'm sure he got paid already, but I do feel sorry for him that he didn't get that moment of glory, much like the people who worked on the Dwarf/Wizard Quest packs.
Then again, fans are getting the Synder Cut released, so maybe if there was enough interest they could get Hasbro to reconsider this one too. It would seem an odd marketing strategy to request that we "ask for what you want" in terms of new expansions and hint they "won't stop" creating new content, and then close the door on something they actually did intend to sell at one point. The only thing that stopped the Dragon from getting funded was that they didn't really allow enough time to say there was "not enough interest" in it.
The whole point of the fundraiser was to create it and people are getting actual sets next fall from it. But I presume they intend to sell this to other people just like they would any other game after that. Hence some of those potential future buyers might be interested in purchasing more stuff. If sales are absolutely dismal, I could see them giving up. For all they know, the people who pledged are the only ones who care about spending money on Hero Quest anymore. Who is to say? I doubt it, but there you go.
