I like it so far. Much like I was expecting. I’m surprised the board is solid, but that is even better. It has a different aesthetic in case you want to change things up. The new box art seems much better as well!

I think hasbro is apparently doing the things rather well with this First Light box in terms of who is the target customers of this product. The main purpose is making the game attractive to new players, in a cheaper way than buying the Game System box, which also is bigger and occup much space. This FL box fairly includes all the components included in the Game System to allow everybody playing any released official quest if you also own the apropiate expansion, and that's what Avalon Hill promised with FL. Moreover the box even includes stuff no strictly necessary for playing like the cardboard Screen and Character Sheets, but they included them anyway. It probably will also include a revised rulebook and cards, and you could find inside up to 5 new plastic miniatures and new quests with a new board layup, all components probably adapted to be a better training for new players than the original Game System was, also thinking in using the existing app to improve the experience, who knows. As said, I think it is a good product for the purpose they were looking for.

The board is double sided, the underside has a different layout. Part of it looks like the arena from AtOH, the rest is rooms, but a much different layout from the original board. There are quest creator sheets with the new layout being distributed as well.

Plus having a second board means you can use two to play Q 9 and 10 from FH and MotM.

That is true for the double quests. In addition you have the extra doors and furniture you might need too (even though they are cardboard ones).

Better look at the new board (courtesy of Reddit). It's folded up so this is only a part of it

Looks cool! Like a mine or something.

I think that this was probably the best way to go for a cheaper version of the game. You really need the full board for compatibility, although a paper map would have worked just as well. Limited number of miniatures and the rest as standees is fine. Likewise, cardboard tile furniture is fine. At $50 msrp, you're likely to get it for $30 in some places, which is easily in kid's present territory, and they get the excitement of buying the full version with all the models if they like the game.

Doug Hopkins have confirmed yesterday to some people present in the GenCon AH stand that FL questbook has been designed by Stephen Baker himself. I am pretty sure this will make the included campaign very interesting, even from lore standpoint.

Good to see the original creator of HQ still making adventures for the game 30 years later. In the interview we performed him, published at the beginning of 2024 he already revealed he was participating in more HQ stuff, but hopefully FL will not be the last one!!
