Amazing how good foam can look when carved and painted. Back in the day I never would have considered it, thinking rather to use wood or clay... or just cardboard or chickenwire covered in papier-mâché. Considering the expense and/or difficulty in some of those methods (forget 3d printing plastic!), this is an excellent solution. I myself don't have access to much foam at this time so I'd have to special order it. I've downplayed the idea of doing a 3d dungeon for other reasons (space, less flexible for multiple quests), but if I ever did it, I'd take tips from some of you all that have employed this solution!

Yeah I was amazed too, that foam could look cool, I wasnt convinced until I saw the runehammer channel. There is also a solution where you dont need much space, using negative space and tiles made out of foam, 2.5-D.

Also the other option which I chose making a generic mountainboard like I did on page 1 with the addition of some scatter pieces, you basically can reset the board and rearrange the room however you like and build different encounters, its super flexible.

Runehammer has some excellent room design videos, using a simple styrofoam board plus scatter pieces. Great gamedesign inspiration.

I feel inspired to get crafting again after having done this board a while ago. Next little project is gonna be an Ice Board with some Ice Terrain.
This one is made out of XPS Foam, textured, gridded, painted.
