So with the over-the-wall doors, how do you handle open-vs-closed?

Do you run into any kind of "wear" issues with sliding them into place?

I've been kicking around ideas for a modular board that tries to strictly fit the original layout, and walls are definitely "the hard part" to figure out.
Currently leaning toward larger tiles, where the walls could have slight overlap with the outer rim of the room without causing trouble -- though single hallways are still going to be too thin.

No issue with wear. I varnished all walls with 2 layers of gloss and one layer of matt.

Interesting concept. How is the other face of the opened door constructed?

I like the spacing and the grout lines. I'm surprised how nice it looks with lines that wide.
I'm planning for 32mm tiles with much narrower (but still distinct) lines, and this gives me some encouragement.

As thematically-cool as the full-height walls are, though, I'm leaning toward something much shorter.

The bases on the original doors are already 5mm, so you basically get that much "for free" without risking interference with "standard style" opened doorways.
I'd guess that could be scaled up to as much as 8-10mm and still look OK if you build a door base with small integral steps to break it up, without get visually jarring.

Your work looks amazing, though, my own preferences aside.

Here’s the other side. Went for plain black. It seemed to work best. I look forard to seeing your work. My only advise would be Just do it and see where it takes you.

Just so I have a better scale reference, what is the brick height on those walls? 6mm, or so, each?

I am in the process of constructing modular brick walls that are 5mm thick. Still have a bunch more to make. And a bonus I found is that they are stackable so I can have walls higher in some areas if I want. I designed them so they are reversible as well

Cool idea, and best of luck, but for me, the difficulties outweigh the benefits of having actual walls. If I ever did something like this, it would be along the lines of something modular, for sure. The cost would start to get a bit ridiculous, but you can always show it off...

Actually the cost is minimal as I am making them from scratch using a mold I make out of lego then reinforcing them with metal wiring. The shaping and carving can take some time though
