Corpse Counters

Postby kingdragun1983 » August 10th, 2014, 3:01 am

The idea is not mine, I got it from a YouTube blogger named DM Scotty, check him out just search DM Crafts, its insane a lot of the stuff he builds with cardboard and hot glue. But any way he made a good point, if the battles in the game were real, the vanquished monsters, or heroes, wouldn't just simply disappear, there would be a corpse so what about using some for of marker or something to show where something has fallen, if its a hero, then you could have the others players take any items and gold they had on them for themselves.

That's a neat idea as you could see the corpses littered throughout the dungeon. If you used a counter, you could make them double sided to see if they've been searched or not. I have been keeping a track of how many monsters our heroes kill.

Reaper has some dead humans (two I think) which I thought I'd acquire to include in a quest storyline. Does anyone know if another mini maker has any?

In HeroQuest, fallen Heroes maybe searched if they remain in sight of another Hero. If they fell out of the site of a Hero, or a Hero looses sight of the body, then something crawls out of the darkness and steals the body, with everything one it. Unless it is an important Artifact (which would crop up in the next Quest -- I think?), all the items the are gone forever! Monsters -- at least their figurines -- just goes away -- they dissolve into background elements. Any special treasure they held becomes room treasure. As a house rule, dead monsters leave behind coins form a coin draw. using marked Body Tokens would be a good way to place tokens without placing a bunch of Coins Tokens on the board.

On the other hand, in Dragon Strike, dead monsters stay on the board for two rounds, face down, so the heroes could have a chance to search the body for treasure. After that time is up, it is removed form the board, as animals random background elements printed on the board or whatever, eats it up. As a house rule, I allow fallen heroes the chance to survive when going down to 0 Hit Points. When a hero is brought down to 0 Hit Points, he is unconscious and dying -- as oppose do dying outright, as per the normal rules. If any other hero fails to heal the fallen hero within two turns, then the hero bleeds-out and dies.

Both systems have their own approach that can compliment each other. It both cases, using Body Tokens is a good way to mark where all the monsters and heroes died for the sake of emergency healing and searching bodies.

Hell, If to many monsters fall on one spot, the square could become hard to move over (with the piled up corpses and the slippery blood and guts) or become an obstruction they would require time to clear. So a two Body Tokens might cost two Movement Points to enter, and three (or more) Body Tokens would become impassable like a triggered Fallen Rocks trap. Clearing a body pile takes one action, but must be done outside the sight of enemies, and a Hero can move Body Tokens (to unoccupied squares adjacent to the pile) equal to his starting Attack Dice score -- the Hero's Strength. This would make the tactic of clambering around an open doorway to pick-off the monsters one-by-one a little more foolish. (So how many Body Tokens would it take to fill up an open pit trap?)

Almost all Games Workshop Empire footsoldiers from multipart plastic kits look completely deranged, their toothless faces looking like they died in disbelief and yet still standing, especially those with their mouths open.
Hilariously, using them as dead room accessories is all I can think of when looking at these horrible horrible sculpts.
Might be just me, though.

Many. Just google for "minis casualties".

I did those quite some time ago:

SearchingDecks.pdf

They were part of my new searching system (different decks of treasure cards for searching empty rooms / rooms with furniture / tombs / looting corpses), a mammut project I never got finished...
