Digital Questbook - Traditionalists Look Away

Postby Ethica » June 11th, 2012, 3:18 am

I got tired of taking ages to print off lovely questbooks only to realise I'd made spelling mistakes or wanted to revise them after they were played. Originally I was going to put them all onto an ipad but what I really wanted was something that could replace the questbooks and be stored exclusively with the HQ stuff.

So I'm putting the quests onto a digital photoframe. It has a touch screen so you can zoom in and quickly flip between quest, monster stats, rules and other notes. Dissapointingly the one I bought is a bit rubbish slow and flips wildly between pictures of it's own accord, but the idea is sound. Speaking of sound it also plays mp3s so I can put mood music on as I see fit.

I made a leather binding for it too. This took a few days of solid grafting. The leather stitching was so boring and took at least 6 hours in itself. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out though.

I've been thinking about doing this too - I have a whole mess of old D&D pdf's on my kindle fire.
(won it at a christmas party for work - not from "money laying around")
If I ever get into gaming again - if I have the time to - then I will definitely be using my kindle for that.

I too love the cover. Where did you get it - did you make it?

Does the kindle display PDFs? Yes made the cover. Leather work not that hard, this is my first endeavour. Just 3 bits of thick cardboard sandwiched between 2 a4 sized pieces of leather. Holes punched with a belt hole making tool and very long piece of leathervlace thread through. The photo frame Is attached with Velcro so I can remove it for recharging. The mentor m is cut out to show through to a third bit of leather underneath, this is also what makes the stitching in a groove. The clasp thing is held on with jeans rivets.

yes - the kindle will read pdf and text files. PDFs require the adobe app, I'm sure it is free
just like adobe reader. My kindle automatically came with this, if I remember correctly.
There is also an app you can use to read MS files - word, powerpoint, excel...this is what allows
me to read text files, if I remember right. You know...just normal text files, like one would get
from using notepad or something basic like that.

I have a Kindle Fire and would love to download HQ into it.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Thanx for another very clever idea! Having no Kindling, I have to stay out in the cold for the forseeable future.

Beautifully done!
I had ideas in the back of my head about making something like that for a fullsize laptop, but it's very low on my schedule.
Have a look ;)
