Haha. I feel you, Tott.

I just mixed up the darker coat of shellac. What I applied last night was called "blonde" and is the lightest of three shades. The one currently coming into being in my kitchen is "ruby red," the darkest. The stuff comes in flakes that have to be dissolved in denatured alcohol, a process that can take up to 24 hours. So now I wait. I suppose I'll ruin the surprise and tell you that when the new shade is ready, I intend to coat the entire chest EXCEPT the letters on the logo. Those I will leave alone with only the blonde coat on them. Hopefully, this will make them appear a golden color in comparison with the rest of the wood. See how easy it is to avoid having to do an inlay if you're really committed? :D

Unbelievably well done.

We have to thank you really very much that you documented the construction of the box - sharing the ability to make it is very generous of you.

Dude this... is... amazing!!!!! I want one!!!! If you don't mind me asking what was the final cost to make one? That way I have an idea of how much I need to save. I think I need to make one of these for my copy of Descent too.

Uh... tough question, Daniel. As mentioned, I got all the wood for free, as well as the shellac (benefits of knowing the right people). The hardware cost me maybe $55 total, plus about $15 at the local swap meet for some belts which we turned into those straps.

Based on past experience, I would estimate $250 (US) if I'd had to buy everything from scratch.

Nice work Captain! Inspirational. It looks like it would be necessary to search it for traps before opening.

I can't wait to see more custom boxes soon.

I really should trap it. I was thinking that the whole time. Maybe poison gas.
