Cooperative Casting Part 1

Postby torilen » December 5th, 2016, 4:13 pm

In one of my new supplements (for Questing Heroes), I included rules for cooperative casting...
two casters casting their spells one after another to create magnificent effects. I have not given
any rules here for how to allow this in your games...only the spells needed and the effects of
those spells when cast together. Everything has been tailored for HQ. Enjoy!

Could a single caster using the Wand of Magic use cooperative casting alone?

:D
When reading the thread title, I first thought you wanted to start a project to cast figures...
To cooperate to finance the moulds and share the results, something like this...
Have a look ;)

Big Bene - that is hilarious. Maybe I should give more thought to my titles?

Daedalus - it's been a while - does that wand allow a wizard to cast two spells at once? If so, then
yes, I suppose that could be possible, perhaps. Depends on how the wand can be used...how often,
when, etc. The idea behind this ability is that the two casters practice with one another to change
their spell casting in order to make their personal styles of casting work in conjunction.
...
You know...the idea was to promote "heroes" working together.

So, if a single caster has the ability to use the wand numerous times to practice casting the
spells to get the effect right, then I guess it could be possible. To make it a little more fun,
perhaps the first couple of times, you as the Evil Wizard could stipulate a change in the
final effect. Not a total failure of the casting, just something off-kilter until the caster
gets it right...maybe three or four tries.

All in all, a nice idea. Could be the starting point for more general "combined spells" rules.
Perhaps a wizard very experienced in this kind of thing could even "use" an enemy spell if he has the luck to take his turn immediately after the enemy sorcerer, throwing in his own one and so totally altering the effect...
More than two spells could be combined...
In any case, you should flesh out the underlying rules a bit more - who is allowed to cast cooperative spells, what are the requirements, is it a ability that can be learned, or can any two magic users start practicing right away?
Have a look ;)

That ability fits magnificently into my system. The cost is high, two heroes who each give a spell and their entire turn, so here is an opportunity for a strong effect that is not overpowered.

I like that concept!

Big Bene - I've been looking at other spells that could be combined, and if you (or anyone else) want,
I'd be happy to work some more cooperative casting effects out and post them. I could look at what
could happen if a caster takes over an Evil Wizard Spell, too - I love that idea.

About fleshing out the rules, to be honest, I was hesitant to do that for posting them here at the inn.
I have the rules fleshed out for my game system, but so many people here at the inn use so many
different sets of house rules...and so many people don't really like expanding the HQ rules...I just
wanted to offer something short and simple and let everyone decide on their own how to implement
it within their games.

Just go on and post it. If we like it we say so. If not, we just change it secretly after copying. :D
