A healing potion for the boss is one of the best plays you can make. Leaves the players worried big time, wondering if the boss has more than one potion! Sure you know how many BP you have to carve him down by, but seeing a HP played by a monster or villain is dismay inducing.

Healing potions, scrolls and spells in the hands of the monsters totally levels up the dungeon.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

It really depends on how the EWP plays. Do you tell the heroes a monster's stats when placing it or do you keep the suspension
so that the heroes properly learn a monster's stats?
The latter way, cards for boss and other monsters are indeed a great way of spicing up a dungeon.

Personally, I just show the Heroes the backs of all cards a villain has.
Mostly it's spells, so they see how many.

Nope... I'm just not feeling it. Potion of healing... Boss. Sounds very meh!!! bosses need things of awesomeness!!! like Gauntlets of infinity.

Plus, how would he not drink it. Might as well just give the boss an extra 4 BP. It would take a really poop EW to forget to say, "boss drinks potion". it really does not work.

Yes there is a big difference. The difference between something happening and nothing happening. The difference is that you tell the heroes that the Boss was nearly finished but he drinks a potion of healing. Those faces are fun to look at!

Also, when the boss is down to 2 body points, there's a difference if you need to take them both with one attack (becasue otherwise he's gonna drink that potion to get at 5 again)
OR if it suffices to take them with two attacks.
The difference between 5+4 body points and 9 body points...

If "Boss" starts with 5 BP and Heroes get him down to 2...does he drink the Potion and waste 1 BP...or does he hold it in hopes of only losing 1 more? I know many times Heroes do the latter...only to lose 2 BP in one attack and fall with Potion in hand.

THIS 100%!!

That moment you declare a HP being played drops their jaws as they realize they are not near defeating the boss yet.
It just makes sense that a powerful warlord or chaos mage would utilize the best military equipment at hand on Gloratha. The HP is the most powerful magic available in most high fantasy games. If I was an evil mastermind with an army of minions and massive resources, in a high fantasy realm, best believe that heal potions and +1 swords are going to be really big on my list of must haves for my army.

If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
