How do I add cut lines on tile/card sheets?

Postby GimmeYerGold » July 20th, 2015, 12:02 pm

I'm setting up some over-sized tiles to be sized for the 3x3 cm Heroquest board.

I've had success with printing out tiles on card stock, and spray mounting the sheet to a heavy paper used for framing called mounting board. Then I cut them down to size with a guillotine/large paper cutter. This makes them sturdy, and approximately the same thickness as the tiles that came with the original system, (not the flimsy paper tiles that came with KK and RotWK)

However, now I want to make them double-sided. This is tricky to line up and glue two sheets of paper on opposite sides of the mounting board. A bleed area will help reduce any wiggle room, (you can see a bleed area of the tiles on the original tile sheets, in fact, as this helps account for errors in the die cut process.)

My question is, is after I add an appropriate amount of bleed area to my tile image files, and set them up on a sheet, is there a simple way to add cut lines to each tile, using photoshop or the like, without extra work?

tl;dr

I'm okay with photoshop but i don't know how to add cut lines to print files without a lot of manual toiling.

I'm no help in photoshop, but what kind of glue are you using?

So, forgive me if I'm a bit slow, that dries pretty fast right?

What if you used something slower so you could align it just right before it starts to stick?

I used a spray sealer to protect the paper, then I painted a layer of mod podge with a paint sponge on the other surface. I used a little roller designed for sculpy modeling to flatten it out. Later, I mod podged (matte) the whole thing, finishing with the flat matte spray sealer again. And for an exceptional result, I must say, except for my choice of substrate. While asthetically pleasing, corkboard is a bad choice for a gaming board.

You could use that spray glue to seal both your cardstock and mounting board, separately (both sides), before gluing it together with regular school glue if you wanted.

Just an idea, it's your story after all.

when you say cut lines do you mean, a guide line, such as a dotted line around the image so you know where to cut it from and too?
I am great at photo shop, but am being really slow today with what you are asking.

When you print via photoshop you can tell it to print cut line markers in the print window.

Step 1: Master the art with small additional bleed
Step 2: Spray each side to thin card stock (around 120 GSM)
Step 3: Use your steel rule & rotary Cutter to cut this down to the edge of the bleed
Step 4: Spray mount each side into the *corner* of your greyboard sheet
Step 5: Use your steel rule & rotary Cutter to cut this down to size
