Custom board printing onto Vinyl

Postby Spiky » October 5th, 2012, 4:08 am

Hi All,

Printing customised pitches onto vinyl mats is becoming quite popular in the Bloodbowl tournament & league circuit, where I spend most of my gaming time. One of my friends at our local Bloodbowl league decided to produce a custom board for us which is printed onto vinyl (a bit like bathroom flooring)

Here's a picture of the finished test product, which is a vast improvement over the standard gaming board:

Our Heroquest boards are not getting any younger, and this has some interesting possibilities for me, like being able to match the dungeon floor colour to my based models, having areas marked for the card decks, like on Monopoly etc. and even printing frequently used rules on the sides of the board. Not to mention it's roll-uppable and resists drink spills! :)

The price of the board for our league is expected to be about £20 to £25 for a min order qty of 5. I've not checked, but I think the Heroquest board would be a similar size... This seems to be fairly affordable in my view.

I had a quick search but couldn't find if anyone had done something similar yet for the Heroquest board?

Cheers,
Steven

that sounds fairly cheap, I think - for what you're getting. I'll have to check that out.

by the way...roll-uppable - I love that. Its amazing how many new words come out of
this forum.

Any further information on this yet? It does seem like a great alternative. I was actually thinking about buying old board games from thrift stores and garage sales, then removing the top image and replacing with a custom printed board, but this is better yet. Let me know what you find.
Sure it's pretty scary when the witch lord returns but what you should really be afraid of is "Resurrection of the Witch Lord". Resurrected baddies always come back more threatening than ever, usually kind of demonic with wings and horns and hell fire to announce their arrival. Think Gannondorf or Mother Brain from Super Metroid.

Hi, I got my bloodbowl league mat and it's lovely! Unfortunately I don't have the IT skills needed to create something similar for heroquest...

I am planning to make a board from canvas. Though it is non-waterproof the colors will be bright, I think too close to the original, and cheap enough (20$ from artscow). Does anyone else have tried this?

Maybe later, I should have to also do some kind of lamination because I like the waterproof idea…

I've never tried it, but you might consider getting spray on sealant used for waterproofing camping gear. My usual brand is Kiwi. It should work well for canvas.
