DragonQuest Board? Opinions....

I always wanted that map for my HeroQuest games. Where HQ has a nice balance of rooms and corridors, with rooms of a modest size, this map is mostly large rooms (round ten more than HQ) with some short corridors and 2x2 square cells here and there. The larger rooms make for rooms filled with more furniture, and more area to fight larger bouts in. For example, pillars (that take up a whole square) look nice in large chambers when you pace them one square form the walls and each other. I can think of all kinds of ways to make Quests and layouts with this map!

For those who are not snobbish about cheap paper figures, the games also features a large number them, including doors. Unfortunately, there are no furniture or markers.

The rules (and cards, which here are a ton of) are just a watered-down version of Basic D&D. And the scenarios are short, bland and way too linear — a waste of the board's potential!

Yeah, I've got a copy of Dragon Strike, don't like them because the boards have doors and furniture. I've been thinking about photoshopping all the furniture and doors out to make a blank template and then have them printed out professionally. This Dragon Quest board is the only board I don't own yet.

If you do end up photoshopping out the furniture and doors, I'd like a copy of the files if you don't mind. It would certainly make them more versatile.
I've been wanting to use the DQ board for a quest. Personally, I don't care for the perspective of the walls making some of the squares appear smaller. It has a nice cell block in the bottom right, but it has too many four-square rooms elsewhere.

Many quest ideas come to mind for it.
-Save the Emperor from goblin assassins.
-Break into the treasury.
-Free the captured knights.
-Steal the secret plans.
The usual run-of-the-mill castle quest ideas.

The dragon strike boards are on Ye Olde Inn, I scanned them all a few years ago.
So are the D&D 2003 board game tiles.
I own DQ, but haven't scanned that one. Kind of a bland map to be honest.

Whoever originally created the Dragon Strike maps decided to pay tribute to all the artists who were working for TSR at the time. Jeff Easly, Larry Elmore etc. I have found about 8 names so far, but you really have to look for them.

As far as doing all the photoshop for these maps, I wouldn't have time to do all that. It would take a few hundred man hours to pull it off and sadly I dont have that kind of time.

Picked up DragonQuest just for the board, looks like I could make it work with HQ. I was flipping through the actual DragonQuest game and even though I never, ever, talk trash about TSR or old school D&D, this game is terrible. Recycled artwork, loose rules, seems like it was thrown together last minute just to cash in on some of the success of HQ. Now, I know this particular product was used to "introduce" new players to D&D, but holycrap man, put some effort into it at least. I would have been ticked both as a D&D and HQ player had I dropped $30 on this game back in the day.
