Custom Molds

The legs of my elf miniature snapped off recently and thankfully my neighbour was kind enough to effect the repair. But it got me thinking, I'm now looking to create molds for some of my HQ miniatures in order to replace them if necessary. not to mention bulk up the ranks of my chaos warriors.( 4 just isn't nearly enough)

I live on the west coast of Ireland so there is zero access to a 3D printer. and arts and crafts shops are sparse.
Is there anyone on here who would be able to recommend techniques and materials

A silicone mold making kit would work pretty well. I've not used one myself but I have seen other people use them with good results.

If you only want to use the molds a few times before moving on then blue-stuff is a reusable mold making substance than you can order from greenstuffworld.

I've heard the reusable molds don't hold the detail to well, when compared to the likes of a plaster of paris mold for example

There's a learning curve with them. The trick is to get the material really hot so it doesn't start setting too soon while you press the miniature into it. The cooler it is then the less elastic it is and you will lose detail. I wear rubber gloves when using it so I can work with it at near boiling temperatures. Then there is the technique of not over filling the mold with greenstuff, something that has screwed up several of my casts. It looks like Alumilite make a version of it called Remelt, which might be cheaper than blue stuff.

Alumilite makes a kit for proper one-use silicone molds that also comes with casting resin. This might be easier to obtain since people use it for making dollhouse furniture and similar.
