They are quite good! Especially the dwarf was driving me mad back when I painted it. Yours is good!

Cheers, Anderas! I definitely agree about the dwarf: I was expecting him to be the easiest hero model to paint, but the opposite was the case: There's so much happening visually over a fairly small area. He turned out to be quite a bit of a challenge!

Fun fact, the bright red plastic made me realise that the unpainted dwarf I had was actually still from my first, original HeroQuest set from way back when:

Image

So anyway, I made good use of a joint painting session with my good friend Annie yesterday, finishing those ten Orcs I had been working on:

Image

I wanted to keep them in somewhat earthy, muddy colours, which I think fits the character of the models, although I added a bit of variety with different colours for their respectve smocks:

Image

And with the dwarf now painted, I actually have the full set of heroes! Allow me to share some additional pictures:

The Barbarian:

The Wizard:

The Elf:

and the Dwarf:

Also, Annie, who owns two complete copies of the game along with some of the rarer expansions, was actually awesome enough to let me have two parts that were missing from my own set, the GM screen and one Man-at-arms, bringing my own set of HeroQuest that much closer back to completion:

As always, let me know what you think! :)

Thanks a lot, guys! :)

Oh, and yes, those models are definitely going to see some gaming action! My plan is to paint up the entire set this year (as quickly as possible, in fact, but you have to be realistic about these things, as Logen Ninefinger would say ;) ), then play my way through the entire quest book, but only when everything has been fully painted.

They look really great. Well done. How do you paint the moon and stars on the wizard? Is it just free hand?

Thanks! The moon and stars were painted with Vallejo Magic Blue and my finest detail brush, and I believe I held my breath the entire time -- in all fairness, though, it's far from the cleanest freehand in the world. It does work reasonably well, though, as long as you don't look too closely ;)

Seriously, though -- I was super thankful, of course, but we help each other out with hobby stuff all the time. In this case, she needs an additional goblin because there's one in her collection with a snapped-off weapon, so I am only too happy to repay her generosity, at least in a small way.

So, work on my HeroQuest set continues apace, even if I only have some boring, preparatory work to show for it:

I've spent the last week cleaning two chaos warriors that had already been painted - badly - along with an old Talisman/WFB chaos warrior that might come in handy as well:

Image

The guy on the right was caked in an absolutely atrocious paintjob, over a thick undercoat of the old white GW primer. Even with several scrubbing sessions, I wasn't able to completely strip off the paint, so I fear he'll never be a beauty again ;)

Image

There was even a weird hump on his left shoulder that didn't match the look of the other chaos warriors, and only after some prying with a hobby knife did I discover that it was an ancient lump of superglue... oh well...

His buddy should fare better, mostly because his paintjob was a lot thinner -- it consisted of hard to remove scale model acrylics, though, so there's still some black on him:

Image

I also cleaned and uncercoated the next batch of models to be painted, the Zombies -- incidentally, one of my favourite HQ scupts!

Image

You can see the test model that was painted at an earlier date in the front row. Oh, and I also allowed myself to have some fun with one of the models and replicate a fun weapon swap I saw in the gallery here in the forum, I believe.
