Minis Acrylic Chipping Dammit

Postby el_flesh » July 16th, 2010, 10:46 pm

There is an undercoat of primer, acrylic paint in a few layers, and a coat of dull lacquer sprayed on.

But some are still beginning to chip: the dwarf's knuckles, the wizard's arm in one spot (where he didn't put deodorant) and the Bitch King's fingertips.

We intend to touch up the minis, and add a second or third coat of dull lacquer spray. Any other advice?

Is the Lacquer enamel? If it's not try a clear coat of satin enamel. That should help it last longer.

Hey el_flesh-

It may be chipping, but your paint job looks amazing. I just found this thread right after creating another on a similar topic.

Any tips?

I'd have to ask the artists who did it to comment in here...

Ah, I thought you did it yourself. I guess there's no way toi learn besides doing it. That and Google.

Don't know which paints you used, and that is basic as bad paints chip earlier... Did you prime the minis? I use a black coat of spray primer for all my minis. Generally speaking, in plastic minis, primed and painted with Vallejo and Citadel paints, paint does not chip even if you don't barnish them.

Acrylic art paints - so probably general purpose for pix or whatever.
