I have to put this away every time I'm done, as I'm painting in the kitchen

Update.

My first Orc of the Confrontation batch, the Barbarian having been worked on slightly, and a batch of Zombies.
These days I don't aim for specific goals when painting but try to be very spontaneous. You wouldn't believe the techniques I've been trying.
I am proud-ish of most outcomes, especially from an artistic standpoint, sometimes I'm also disappointed, set the figure aside and wait for inspiration to strike.

This first Orc shows off what I do. Sloppy basecoating of all areas, cleaning up in midtones with wet blending, then highlights, partly way over the top, then downshading and tinting darker with washes and glazes.
Right now, painting is more about the way than the goal, but you can see that I try to take care of the holy trinity of contrast in this one miniature.

The Zombies were batch-painted, which I've since refrained from, as I want each miniature to have an individual look. I wouldn't do them as this again, but I'll admit that I like my color choices very much, including bluish-green NMM with rust effects, having all three kinds of contrast in the metal alone.
Also, all primary and secondary colors are utilized there: yellow, blue, green on the skin/flesh; violet as a fleshshade; red and violet in the wounds and open muscles; orange in the rust, blue and green in the iron.

The barbarian: I can't seem to figure out NMM chainmail. His is pretty fine, too. Considering to do him in TMM.
Mind you that the gold is also NMM which came out pretty good. Don't really wanna destroy that work.

Those glowing eyes on the undead = awesome! And that NMM shield on zombie is great. Thanks for the eye-candy

Fret not, every one of them I've started looks different. Most green in one or another way, one looks almost albino, one is more brownish, one blue.
I'm having fun with these skintones.

Kneejerk reaction to those skeletons was to say they don't look clean. I then realize they look like they've been wading through filth to find adventurers to kill. The eyes really make it work.

I went for bruised flesh all the way. Yellow, green, blue, purple in places.
Dirt is what you see at the bottom of the skirts.
I still have to learn how to take decent photos to make this work.
The eyes: Game of Thrones as a vague reference.

I like them a lot. The mix of colors was dangerous, but came out well at the end.

For the photos, maybe just exchange the background by something mid-grey?

The orc, the only thing i don't like about him is his hand on the sword. The rest came out very good.
I play 40k orks just because you can do with the skin what you like. You did. It is good.

After seeing Ampersand's new stuff and reading his blog, I went and ordered a goddamn photo box.
Found one for 25 bucks, cheap enough for testing and putting it on ebay if I'm not satisfied.
I desperately want to be able to take better pics.

Thank you very much, kind sir. I think I deliberately made use of a dozen different contrasts and color theory specifics for it all to work out the way it did.
Hue vs hue vs hue, cold vs warm, saturated vs greyed down, complimentary colors, and all that stuff.

Thanks again.
