I like what you guys have done to your minis, so maybe you can provide me with some advice. I'm working on a mini for my Legacy of Sorasil Quest pack, basically I am making an elven mage named Venthrax. I found a mini that should work, except that he is tall. Part of this is due to some strange ball of magic or something that he is "floating on" I want to cut that off and put him on a classic square base, but then he has a huge freaking cape that I need to cut off. I'll post a few photos for examples, if you have suggestions please chime in.
This is Venthrax next to a few familiar baddies for height comparison. I drew a yellow line to show where his feet end. I would like to cut off everything below that.

This is another height comparison. You can see that I cropped Venthrax to show only the feet and up, and then lowered him to a level roughly even with the other miniatures. Notice that he is still a little tall. Do you think this is a problem?

This is a side view of Venthrax. You can see that he has a huuuuuuge cape, but he also has a long stole, both of which would need to be shortened to fit him flat on a base. He is currently leaning somewhat forward but in this photo I have levelled him out a little.

Sure it's pretty scary when the witch lord returns but what you should really be afraid of is "Resurrection of the Witch Lord". Resurrected baddies always come back more threatening than ever, usually kind of demonic with wings and horns and hell fire to announce their arrival. Think Gannondorf or Mother Brain from Super Metroid.
