Dragon Strike minis: worth a second look?

Postby Blackthorn » November 27th, 2012, 6:22 pm

Back in 90's I bought Dragon Strike when it was still new. I never played the game (I did watch the video though  ) but I used the minis for HeroQuest. The warrior hero made a good Sir Ragnar and I used the male thief as a villain in my one-and-only home made quest. I know not everyone likes the minis from this game, but I think they match the HQ scale and look. I also have no interest in miniatures that are made out of metal or require painting and/or extensive assembly.

Now that I've take another look at the miniatures, I think certain ones might make good substitutes for the rare and expensive Quest Pack minis:

Wizards of Morcar: the wizard hero and the evil wizard can be used as the Storm Master and High Mage, while the chaos warlock and boss orc from the HQ Game System can be fill in as Necromancer and Orc Shaman.

Frozen Horror: orcs = ice gremlins, bugbears = Polar Warbears, troll = Frozen Horror. Not an exact match, but the sizes look about right and the greenish-blue color looks suitably cold. This just leaves the Yeti to be sorted out.

The mercenary/men-at-arms miniatures used in these quests are still fairly affordable and can easily be replaced by a variety of available human-fighter type figures.

Some people might cringe at these ideas, but the Dragon Strike minis are still cheap and easy to find.

I use them as well. But I bought the game mainly for the boards :)

I thought about that too. Are there any good fan made quest that use these boards? Can you modify the Dragon Strike quests for HeroQuest?

you don't have to modify them. And HeroScribe has the maps built in as well :D
But I don't have any quests yet myself, though there are some on the web, even on this forum. I am planning to make some in the future though :)

We use some HeroScape figs in our quests - including the Drag-ons.
