Thantos wrote:Thanks Bene, my day job is doing 3D models for training simulations in the oil and gas industry. Evening job is doing miniatures and 3D printing. And my university degree is 3D CGI where im researching 3D printing for part of my final year. Would love to get a nice paid job working with 3d printers, would be a dream :D
Im hardly a professional :P just some guy following an interest in additive manufacturing to borderline obsession  My girlfriend jokes i spend more time with printer and pc than with her! :?
Well, that's as close to actually have a job working with 3D printers as one could ask for... My fiancee would perhaps tolerate me spendingmore time with my hobbies than with her, but my 4 months old son just demands his time.
Thantos wrote:Not really suitable for direct sale, but good for the masters for moulding.

That's a pity. What do you think would be the best technique for a home printer for direct sale models?
Thantos wrote:Which machine are you working with? Sometimes I have larger parts that i need to pay to print on a FDM machine. I have a build area the size of 6 postage stamps!
I have them printed at Shapeways or Sculpteo. I normally try Shapeways first, as they are cheaper, but sometimes Sculpteo can print a model Shapeways can't. I use the detail resin material for most models, the standard plastic material for the skeletons (although the level of detail is all but perfect, but the detail resin would be too fragile for that), and some models I have color printed (in the gypsum-like material that is used for this purpose).

The potions look great, by the way. If the resin turns out a little "foggy", that only adds to the realism, as clear glass is a relatively new invention.
Have a look ;)

I fully agree with BB on the potions.

I agree with bene, they look good clear, the cloudyness just adds realism.

What all have you tried as far as drilling holes? Have you tried a shallow hole up from the bottom? I'm thinking just a few mm's. How much does it refract if you just paint a small disc on the bottom? I wish I could do some experiments...

I second that. About time someone had the idea. The simplest ideas won't spring to mind, will they?

Check Seb's An idea becomes reality : Tile Bases thread, over a year ago. An idea before its time.

Is everyone a dad here but me? :O haha. 4 months eh? Only 9 years and 8 months until you can get some HQ games in with him ;)

If you are looking to do stuff cheaply and fast, a SLS powder based machine (like what you are using at Sculpteo) would be good, but its an investment. You are not going to get a good result with most printers under $30k since minis require a support material else there will be a lot of cleanup. You could always cast your skellys in resin?

Ill do some tests sajungzak and post the results. :D

Thanks Daedalus, hadnt seen that thread. Will have a read :)

New wizard all done now |_P He's true scale rather than in a HQ style (ampersand has that market cornered ;) ) im pleased with the detail on the casting of the fire hawk.

That does look good.
Post here when the bases are finished and I'll take a gander at the wizard, too.

I would like to buy some of your dungeon doors. But I need far more open doors than closed doors... any solution to my "problem"? ;-)

cut out the closed doors, and use those for dressing. Make a custom cupboard with them (shorten them a bit)
