No need, I slapped a coat of Vallejo matte varnish on him so he should be completely fine.

I tried doing Ampersand's trick on the bases - hope it matched well with what you did on yours?

Well, here are two of my latest minis... The Slayer turned out well, of course these close ups always make it look a lot worse. It's an old Warhammer metal. The Elf, well, not my best mini. It's one of the Bones minis, and it has so much detail, it's almost impossible to paint well. I think I'll be using a lot of Quickshade on these.

For some reason the matte varnish spray turns up a lot lighter when using flash. Almost looks grainy. But you can't see it with the naked eye fortunately.

Here's what I did last weekend, justy finished varnishing them:

More pleased about these than my last efforts.

Great, the stone gargoyle looks great. If I ever have two of them, I'll probably go for a stone one as well as a live one.
The live one is also great, I like that you didn't do the wings red, it has a lot of red already. And the fire effects are great, very smooth.

Nice stuff :D

About the varnish issue, you might be spraying a fraction too far from the model (and I mean a fraction) - causing some particles to dry before landing. These then get coated by wetter particles and whilst okay to the naked eye, a camera flash or light source will bounce off the minute edges and cause that 'dusty' look.

I like the Gargoyle's sword--cold to hot. Feels more real, particularly at the base. The transition of cold iron to magical heat cleverly echoes nature of a magically animated\changed statue. The whip alone can't convey this.
