Spookyhappyfun's Minis

Postby Spookyhappyfun » April 28th, 2024, 11:30 pm

I reacquired the game back in 2017 and discovered that there were expansions I never knew about as a child, and a thriving community bursting with homebrew material and fan-created quests I never would have imagined. And I immediately set out to expand my game. In the time since then the remake has come out, and while the new larger board and fancier furniture is great and I love that it's generating so much additional content and enthusiasm, I still prefer the old art style and classic minis. Which works out great because I've been gathering new minis and expanding my collection ever since the beginning.

Since I'm not much of a painter and know that I'll never be as good as a lot of the more experienced people I see around here and on Reddit and Instagram, I've decided to keep my minis all single colors as they come in the box and add more monsters to those groups and just keep building on the idea of different colors for different monster groupings by also adding more groups.

I've been slowly collecting, rebasing, and painting my minis to realize my vision ever since I started. I've got a few more that I've got in my cart at Minis3D that I'm probably gonna pull the trigger on later this week, but I think I finally have all the minis I need until some new quest pack comes out. And after a significant push over the past several months to get a bunch of them painted, I sat down this weekend and laid them all out to count and catalogue them and to see what I'm working with. And while there's more to go, I got all excited and started taking a bunch of pictures and figured I'd share them here!

Here's the full collection. There are some that need rebasing, but everyone that's been added to a base has at least been primed and ready to paint. But you can really see the colors of the groups:

And for fun, here are pictures of the various groups!

For Greenskins, here are the Orc and Goblin representatives. Orcs, Orc Soldiers, Orc Archers, Black Orcs, Goblins, Goblin Archers, Hobgoblins, Snotlings, and Squigs:

A few Orc bosses including Ulag and Grak:

And filling out the Greenskin army are the Fimir, Fimir Boss, Fimir Shaman, and a Troll:
Image

For the Undead troops you've got Skeletons, Skeleton Archers, Zombies, Death Knights, Specters, Ghosts, Dwarf Skeletons, Death Reapers, and Mummies:
Image

And some Undead Bosses including Skullmar, Kessandria, and the Witch Lord:
Image

For Chaos you have Chaos Warriors, Chaos Archers, Doomguard, Dark Elves, Chaos Dwarves, and Cultists:
Image

Some of the Chaos bosses are seen here, including the evil Sir Ragnar:
Image

For Heroes we have Male and Female versions of the main four, flanked by the heroic Sir Ragnar and Mentor:
Image

Here are some of the newer Heroes from the Remake. You've got the Male and Female Knight, the Rogue Heir of Elethorn, the Druid, and the Orc Bard in the middle:
Image

A few other fun Heroes are the Male and Female Warrior, the Paladin in the middle, and the Adventurer and Undead Hunter from Italy:
Image

And lastly an Assassin, Ranger, and Thief:
Image

For NPCs you've got various Imperial Knights, Guards, and Mercenaries (still gotta paint those weapons), along with the imprisoned Sir Ragnar:
Image

Also random other NPC warriors including variants of the main four heroes and Pierre Chancier in the back middle:
Image

In the Vermin category we've got Skaven, a Grey Seer, a Rat Ogre, a Rat Swarm, and Giant Rats:
Image

For Beasts we have Giant Bats, a Giant, Bugbears, Werewolves, Giant Wolves, and Giant Spiders:
Image

Under the Beastmen category there are Ungors, Gors, Chaos Hounds, Minotaurs, a Beastman Shaman, and a Beast Lord:
Image

Lizardmen include Saurus Warriors, Skinks, and Abominations:
Image

You probably recognize all these Icy fellas as the Ice Gremlins, Polar Warbears, Yetis, and the Frozen Horror:
Image

But they've also got some Firey company with the Lesser Demons, Fire Elemental, Manscorpion, and Dragon:
Image

The Ogres include the Ogre Warriors, Ogre Chieftain, Ogre Champion, Ogre Lord, and the Giant Ogre Boss:
Image

For the Elves you have the Elven Swordsmen and Archers along with Wood Elves, High Elven Spearmen and Archers, Elven Assassins, and the Magus Guard Elven Knights:
Image

I still need to paint a few more Dwarves, but seen here at least are a Hill Dwarf, a Dwarf Noble, and a Dwarven Leader:
Image

For Evil Wizards I have the Wizards of Morcar in the back with Sinestra and Zargon in the front:
Image

And finally a few other Evil Wizards for good measure:

A lovely set! I too enjoy the solid color miniatures. I caution about the resin printed minis (for example from Minis3D), they can be quite brittle, sadly.

Thank you! I think it’s pretty fun to see all those colors when I open the drawer to take some out for a game. And seeing new monsters in some of the old colors makes me feel like I’ve picked up some rare expansion pack.

I’ve definitely had a few of those resin figures break either from my mishandling or during shipment. But I’ve also had some old plastic figures, like some of the Battle Masters figures, break as well. I’ve tried to get mine from a wide variety of sources, like getting the original plastic monopose sets and rebasing for a lot of the Warhammer figures, but I turn to Minis3D if they have things I haven’t been able to find anywhere else (and sadly I don’t have access to, know anyone who has, or know anything about 3D printers).

I try to just be as careful as I can with all of them. I know that accidents are probably gonna happen at some point with at least a couple of these. Hopefully having so many (and easy access to replacements in some cases) will help when it does.
