Spent the weekend play testing my RPG with my brother and his wife and kids.

Concept: Standard issue fantasy rpg. Swords, sorcery, wizards, elves and dragons. You know that stuff!
The hereos went on a mission to retreive the Orb of Zanarian. A powerful magical item that seeks to teach a mage strange and esoteric spells. The mage has no control what spells it will teach and must learn the spell the Orb wishes to teach to change the spell it is trying to teach. The Orb cuts experiance point cost to learn spells substatialy so the mage has incentive to use the orb. However it is a pita for a battle mage when the orb is only trying to teach you a spell like 'Speak with Horses". Encountered along the way in the wizards citadel while searching for a pair of Mage Twins who had made a pact with demons for arcane powers, were a particularly nasty pair of Marble Golems and an Undead Salamander with a butt ton of hit points.
Of course the adventure culminated with the death of the bad guys and the retrieval of the orb, but many a time it looked like certain doom would befall the hereos and many a time a life or death dice roll came down to the wire.
