With plastic injection molding, the mold itself is the major expense (5K or more, plus sculptors fee's). The plastic itself is negligible.

Each stretch goal is one or two sculpts. So, if you really do want five different tentacles, you're looking at three SG's or 60K-90K for them, rather than one or 30K.

Looks like Monolith is following the Zombicide "bucket-o-mini's" model to satisfy the value backers, although the add-ons are priced higher.

Rules look easy enough to reskin any set of fantasy miniatures, particularly monsters. Like Orcs, Fimirs, Chaos Warriors... :D

Don't underestimate the pics. They promise that and nothing more - they will do that and nothing else! It is five times more expensive selling five different models than five times the same.

I am just now downloading the original conan stories. Not the remakes-fakes-commercial copies; but the originals. Just to see how they are.

If someone is interested, they're for free.

Given the quantities involved, I'd expect them to be doing the same model multiple times in the same sprue. So really it is sculptors fees. I'm just more amazed at how many they are giving since it seems far more than are necessary.

then they will be besmirching the legend of Conan. Doubt the estate of REH would continue to do business with Monolith.

Wow, that's a great source. Just downloaded them.

Me too. Well, not exactly like native Americans, but close. The sculpts of the picts are what disturbes me most about this game, the others I could perhaps tolerate.

A little more thought on some of the models:

Belit: I'd say she is a huge tribute much of the very beautiful Conan art from the likes of Frank Frazetta and Boris Vellajo. I instantly recognized the 80 era of fantasy art in her model(s).
The crown are a bit too much, but other than that I think she is one of the better. Notice she has two sculpts; the other a little more toned down.

Picts: I imagine them as rainforest indians - Like in the movie "Apocalypto". These models are definitely too bulky, but their dressing and equipment are close enough I think.

Giant snake: Should have been just that. Just a regular big old snake. If we go back to conan fantasy art again, every single piece of art depicts the snake as a normal (but giant) snake.

Thog: I think it's nice they include the more "Lovecraftian" aspects of Conan as well with this "old-one".

They just crossed the million dollar line and are heading to something between 2 and 3 millions. This is a lot more than expected officially. Stretch goals started with 15k each and are now 50k each, meaning even in their inofficial planning there has been an adaptation with a factor bigger than three.

At least they use plastic. The plastic process is good industrializable.

I just got directed over here from the Conan KS by a member of the site here. First, let me say that I'm glad to see other Heroquest fans are out there still. I used to play the game all the time with my dad and little brother when it first came out, and have a lot of great memories of the game.

I just thought I would let everyone here know how excited I am to see the Conan boardgame KS doing so well. The community has been really amazing, the company great to deal with, and the more I learn about the game and how it plays, the happier I become. We're at over a million and hundred grand and going strong, with some real solid stretch goals unlocked along the way.

Basically, I'm a diehard Conan fan. I've played the MMO, the RPG, read the books, watched the movies and cartoon (still love it. lol), and Conan meeting a Heroquest style of game is basically my chocolate and peanut butter. The art has been real solid (with them even using some of the stuff from AoC with permission), the models just look fantastic, and the gameplay that we've seen in the videos looks just plain fun. I'm also loving the fact that they've got Patrice Louinet (pretty much THE REH Conan expert) onboard to try and make it as official as possible. Now, that does mean that it will be a mature game. Nudity, blood, and more, so look out for that. Definitely something I would have to check out before playing with my little girl. lol

I really advise anyone here to check it out, watch the gameplay videos (espeically the UndeadViking one), and see what they think of it. I've got a little over $200 bucks pledged, and just have a ton of miniatures coming my way. Even if I didn't have any interest in the game itself, I would get more than enough use out of the minis in my RPGs to get my money's worth.

PS: I will point out that this is actually the first KS that I have ever thrown my money at. Watched plenty, and bought a few after they hit retail, but this is the first that I've actually just yelled, "shut up, and take all my money" and actually done it. ha ha ha...

I'm into this game for loads of money. Hopefully it's worth it. P.s. Don't tell my wife. :bites-lip:
