It's only a matter of time before I spend far too much money on that game.

Distribution of this game is horrible......the first wave is out... but dutch dealers don't have the sets. One had a whopping 2 (yes, that's TWO!) of each in stock which were gone almost immediately. Others are expecting to get them.....but maybe in a few months and maybe just once as they had problems with the base game.
Also, there isn't one Amazon site that has all 7.
In the end I ordered 6 at Amazon and 1 from an Amazon seller.

I have played 3 sessions (Four quests including the intro), with a new gaming group I recently joined.

I have to say that I have really enjoyed the game so far. We are equally split on Rebels vs Imperial so far in terms of wins, and all of them have come down to the last minutes of play.

The game appears to be remarkably well balanced, particularly how the quests scale depending on how many Rebels are in a session.

In fact, I have enjoyed it so much that I broke down and purchased a copy of Descent 2.0 since IA is strongly based off of that system.

Good stuff.

We've got almost all of the way through the campaign, just need to play the finale.

The Imperial player (me) started off winning most of the time, four of the first five games if I recall correctly. As the Rebel players got the hang of it, that's turned around and the Rebels have won the last five on the bounce. But in four out of those five, I was literally one activation (and in one case, one dice roll) away from winning, before I lost... very close, and hugely dramatic. While any given mission can easily go one way or the other, overall it's beautifully balanced and very finely tuned.

I can't wait for us to play the finale. Having so much fun with this game, and can't wait for the Twin Shadows expansion!

All 7 expansions have arrived!

Verdict:

Negative: Way, way, way overpriced.....it's just a small miniature and some cards!

Positive: To hell with the negative! It's Star Wars! Bring on more expansions as I love it!

(and no, I'm not being sarcastic. Even though the expansions should be half of the RRP they just look fantastic and like I said before: this is a game I've wanted for over 25 years, so no complaints!)

Yeah, all this is crazy overpriced, but fun. I'll probably pick these up eventually. I also saw somewhere that new expansions have been announced already? Ouch.

Great. I hope you're enjoying them.

Prices look about right for ffg. X wing is about £10 an expansion for a miniature and some cards. Imperial Assault looks like it is £8 - £13 for some cards and 1-3 miniatures.

I'm currently deciding over whether to get this game next or buy some more expansions for x-wing. My wallet is not big enough for all the star wars goodness ffg are releasing at the moment. I think that when the Boba Fett villain pack is available my mind will be made up.

Thing is: Imperial Assault is 2 games in 1: skirmish and campaign….and both have different rules.

In every expansion set are cards that are only used in the skirmish version….and since I only want to play the campaign I’m paying for stuff I’ll probably never use.

Still: I’m not complaining. It’s a fantastic game and I’ve always dreamed of a SW dungeoncrawler.

Regarding the 3 new expansion packs: I’m disappointed. Here’s why: there are so many characters and species they can release, and what do they come up with?

-Stormtroopers (which are already included in the base set (in a different pose)). This set is cleary for the skirmish players who might want a big trooper army.

-Wookiees (we already have Gaarkhan from the base set and Chewbacca…so why more Wookiees? Sullustans or another species would have been more logical).

-Rodians (they’re great).

Despite all this: I’m getting all of them. I know I will regret it if I don’t.

Well, if you take that point of view, I guess you're right. The choices are a bit 'safe' but I'm pretty sure they will branch out in future waves and release more varied expansion packs.

I've not looked into their other Star Wars games but I know in x-wing they went through all the original trilogy ships in the first three waves, then dipped into the expanded universe and even created their own ship. As long as the expansions continue to sell they will continue to release more.
