Would anyone scan the Kickstarter exclusive chapter quest cards and story quest booklet when they receive them please?
OK, so I have owned the game a couple of weeks now and I have to say I like it a great deal, yet it feels incomplete. Maybe if I was receiving all the stretch goals I would feel fulfilled, but alas, I am not!
My review:
The Good: The core mechanic of card driven combat and slaying hoards of monsters is fun. The dice mechanics are simple enough to not bug down play and allow you to spend more time on tactical movement and planning attack combos with friends. Fantastic miniatures. Very high quality everything, looks amazing on the table. Chain quests and an evolving quest deck and loot bag give a coherent feel. Except for a few missing rules (which are fully explained in errata) the rulebook is good. It is not the horrible unintelligible POS that people are complaining about on BGG. Future expansion possibilities are mouth-wateringly exciting, and the home-brew will be strong with this one.
The Bad: Half of the quest cards do not offer sufficient explanations of what to do. Most can be figured out with common sense except for one (Set the Trap) which offers no direction. Advancement is way to slow and limiting and the base game only comes with 5 advanced cards for each hero. I already have house rules in place for this. Remember what I said about the evolving quest deck and loot sack creating continuity? Well the fact that you loose all your items after a play session (with a few exceptions) kills the immersion and advancement. I understand this is to keep treasure drops important every game, otherwise the heroes would be maxed out with the best items after a short while. So I am torn on how to deal with this since it solves one problem while creating another (in my opinion). Limited enemy selection, once again I hate that I missed out on the Kickstarter...
The Ugly: The one mini-boss in the game has two abilities which reference models not included. Some chain quests link to cards not in the game. Components are included for heroes not included in the game, even the Kickstarter exclusive Trickster, which retail purchases will have no way of getting besides the inflated secondary market. One of the packs of cards have a noticeably different shade of gray borders on the back (this might be limited to my copy only but i doubt it). The Brigand Hero deck is split, half in this pack, and half in another. Not only do the backs not match, but the cards bend in opposite directions. Opaque sleeves are needed for at least this one affected deck.
Overall I recommend it with heavy house-rules. If you are concerned, wait for a second edition or a reprint which fixes some problems.
