It’s taken a very long time, but finally here is an update. A BIG update.

This took a LOT longer than I’d intended, and I thank everyone for their patience.

With this update out of the way, I can move on to finishing the Bestiaries.

If you find any typos, layout errors, inconsistencies, or anything unclear, please let us know

Downloads as ever at http://ahqreforged.blogspot.com/, along with notes on what I’ve updated as per popular demand!

@Slev:

I finally managed to start reading your updated ruleset. I didn't finish everything yet.

Here is some feedback:

First of all the visual style with the old scroll background and the added artwork makes it much more appealing to me.

I really like the character creation part. It seems like you have a lot of freedom to create all kinds of characters with different paths! It got a little confusing but luckily you added an example of how to use it. I think having this example was especially important to help with my understanding and erase all questions that arouse from the previous parts.

Now to the "learn to play rules" part.

I have to admit i didn't like this part that much. The 2 main reasons for this are: a) lack of clarity in grammar and sentence building (also some spelling mistakes but they wudn't be that bad if the sentences would flow more naturally). b) There is so much repetition in this part. While explaining certain rules you will refer to the background of the surrounding ruleset and almost each time you explain each surrounding rule again- even if it was explained 2 pages before. With repetition and the lack of clarity (by having some weird sentences and the lacking of a better structure) the Learn to play section becomes sluggish to read and to finish.
I am not sure if your intention was to orientate the ruleset to a modern game, in which there often is a small intro to the rules (easy learning /first steps by doing) and a seperate complete rule book. If so, i think it would have been more clear to have a smaller perspective but with a small excerpt of an example play through of 1 corridor and 1 room with monsters. Something like you did with the character creation part. But i am not sure if this was your intention.

Anyway i really appreciate your hard work and i am very much looking forward to try this ruleset when i have some free time!

Best Markus

Hi there,

i am just trying to use the reforge rules and created a Barbarian. Now i was just wondering how to get access to heroic feats. I found a a way by selecting the Combatant as character path, which gives you one more path (so you basically always take this if you have a non magic character!!!). I almost overlooked this. It is very strange cuz if you do not take it its just strictly worse.
Anyway so now have to chance to get a heroic feat.
But is there a way to get more feats and how do you get the master feats? I am assuming you cannot take the same paths twice.

And 1 more Q: When you create a character, which gives you the option to select 3 equipment allowances- is it possible to tick the same weapon 3 times to get more brutal damage (as a form of specialisation)?
Best Markus

P.S.: i was playing the game a little bit and found another error in the bestiary. APPENDIX VI: BESTIARY page 2 has an example that refers to dice tables on the next page with 2 d12, while the table on the next site are clearly only for rolling on 1 d12! I was looking up the same info in an older printed version of the rules and there the tables still use 2 d12! i also checked if my file of the new version was fixed but the same info is still on the updated version of the game!

While playing the game and looking up rules i also encountered the problem that a certain text passage might refer to another passage in the rules but it doesnt state where this passage is (i.e. a random spell is created).
Furthermore it would have been very helpful if the alphabetic rule section would list any pages and appendices, which would refer to the rule. Some rules can only be found under very specific sections (i.e. how many boons does a hero get? this is only correct in a very specific part of the rules) and it just takes too much time look through all the material constantly!

In a combat phase: can characters move twice or do they need to move normally once and then run as 2nd action?
