If a Hero steps around a corner in a hallway and there is a monster there, why is the monster always facing me and ready to attack?! It might be fun to roll a CD here & see if you can "suprise" him and maybe his back is to you.
Some of us are fans of giving a plus +1Att to a hero if you can attack a monster from behind, but we usually only considered it for when in combat, So I figure why can't that be a possibility in terms of "surprise"/ initiative depending on the amount of noise your armor makes or your "Sneaking" skill level.
Whether you're coming around a corner or entering a room & you see a monster/s, Roll a Die to see if you "surprise" one of them!
Plate Mail:
= One monsters back is turned & you gain +1Att.Metal armor:
= One monsters back is turned & you gain +1Att.Leather/Cloth armor: Wizard, Monk.

= One monsters back is turned & you gain +1Att.Leather/Cloth armor: Thief
&
= One monsters back is turned & you gain +2Att.Any thing else and the monsters are fully alert & ready to attack you.
This not only encourages weak armored heros to be first through the door, but could count as a Sneak option in general where the hero rolls to remain hidden each round as they Sneak past an enemy in a hallway (roll 1d6 movement) or would prefer to wait silently for back-up while in the line of sight of a monster.
Just trying to think of a way to punish the hero wearing Plate Mail without him losing movement. That's to much of a bummer & slows the game down. I will always be against losing movement in general.
