I was just wondering what cost should be applied to this:

Potion of Defiance - This Treacly black substance gives a Hero two extra Combat Dice on defence until they move from their square.

200gc?

Good for those situations where you want/need a Hero to block a door or single corridor for a prolonged period

I would probably make it 250 or 275 personally but my shop is pretty expensive. +2 Defence Dice is quite a big jump so I would certainly make it expensive at any rate.

Yeah, it's trickey. +2 defence is big, and it could be in place for a while, but the Hero must remain static, so it is not transferable to another situation.

Okay, that's two for 250. I'll go with that so I can finish up my Potion Shop for Champions of Wissinland, which is my adaptation of Champion of the Empire.

Trade Gems for 50% off. One could theme it that shinning light through the Gem on to the liquid mixture is what helps create the potion, It's magical properties. or, the shop owner just has a fetish for hording thems.

We do this to give them that little bit extra value but not help much towards equipment, power creep, encouraging the heroes to look more into buying potions.

There's a published case for your potion costing 300 gold coins:

the BQP Alchemist's Shop wrote:Frost Skin
Cost: 300 Gold Coins
Only the Barbarian is affected by this
slushy drink. It enables the Barbarian to
roll 2 extra Combat Dice when defending
against attacks. As soon as there are no
monsters in the Barbarian's line of sight,
this potion's effect wears off.

Pros: more commonly useful for best effect
Cons: Morcar/Zargon can cause it to end with positioning, Barbarian only

Cons: situational use for best effect

It could be said the pros and cons trade off more-or-less equally, but it's your call.
