HQ: Heroes & Villains (knightkrawler) - DISCUSSION

Discuss new Rules for HeroQuest.

Re: HQ: Heroes & Villains (knightkrawler's ruleset)

Postby Daedalus » April 4th, 2016, 4:47 pm

Finally, part c:

knightkrawler wrote:c) Rooms & Corridors

On the board, the white frames seperating individual rooms represent walls. A room on the board is only considered part of a quest if its color on the map is white. If its color is dark gray it is considered solid rock.

I'd add at the end ...Any contents of a room are set on the board when a Hero has line of sight to it, generally after a Hero opens a door.. (This compliments the later passage concerning corridors.)

knightkrawler wrote:Outside and all around the rooms there are interconnected corridor sections. All of these have the same gray stoney design on the board. In maps, only those parts of corridors that have a light gray color are considered part of the quest. The dark gray areas are considered solid rock as dark gray rooms are. Most of the time, corridor parts that are part of the map are seperated from those that are solid rock by rubble.

I'd change "Outside and all around the rooms there are interconnected corridor sections. All of these have the same gray stoney design on the board...." > Light-gray, interconnected corridor sections surround and separate the rooms....
I'd change "...In maps, only those parts of corridors that have a light gray color are considered part of the quest...." > ...On maps, only those parts of corridors that have a light-gray color are considered part of the Quest....
I'd change "...The dark gray areas are considered solid rock as dark gray rooms are...." > ...The dark-gray areas are considered solid rock, as with dark-gray rooms....
I'd change "...Most of the time, corridor parts that are part of the map are seperated from those that are solid rock by rubble." > ...Corridor sections that are part of the map are usually seperated from those that are solid rock by rubble.

knightkrawler wrote:The corridor sections as mapped out above are seperate areas. Blocked squares that seperate a corridor section in two or more act as such concerning the sections and block line of sight.
Squares on corners and crossings are in two or more corridor sections at once, being in line of sight from different directions. Morcar sets up their contents as soon as a hero gains line of sight to them for the first time.

I'd change "The corridor sections as mapped out above are seperate areas. Blocked squares that seperate a corridor section in two or more act as such concerning the sections and block line of sight...." > The corridor sections pictured above are seperate areas. Blocked squares that seperate a corridor section into two or more areas block both movement and line of sight.... (I may have misunderstood "...act as such concerning the sections...". If my interpretation is off or needs refining, I think you should clarify here.)
I'd change "...Squares on corners and crossings are in two or more corridor sections at once, being in line of sight from different directions...." > ...Squares at corners and intersections lie in two or more corridor sections at once, being in line of sight from as many directions....
I'd change "...Morcar sets up their contents as soon as a hero gains line of sight them for the first time." > ...Morcar sets any contents of a corridor on the board as soon as a Hero gains line of sight to it for the first time.

knightkrawler wrote:Usually there is always an entrance into and an exit out of the quest. For all the quests in Trials & Tribulations, the staircase represents both. In order to win a quest, at least one hero must complete the mission given by Mentor and reach the staircase to exit the quest. Villains cannot move onto the staircase.

I'd change "Usually there is always an entrance into and an exit out of the quest...." > Heroes usually enter and exit a Quest by either a spiral stairway or a set of doors.....
I'd change "...For all the quests in Trials & Tribulations, the staircase represents both..." > ...For all the Quests in Trials & Tribulations, the Heroes do both via the spiral stairway....
I'd change "...In order to win a quest, at least one hero must complete the mission given by Mentor and reach the staircase to exit the quest...." > ... In order to win a Quest, at least one Hero must complete the objective of the Parchment Text and exit the Quest.... (This was changed to accommodate Quests beyond Trials and Tribulations.)
I'd maybe change "...Villains cannot move onto the staircase." > ...Villains cannot normally move onto the staircase. (This allows for escaping bosses in the Quest Notes.)

Edited up to Daedalus' last post.
I don't do that in these posts anymore, but only in the original file.

Re: HQ: Heroes & Villains (knightkrawler) - DISCUSSION

My first draft is finished. Some chapters are thrown around, graphics are done (by myself, no less), icons replace terms,
everything in general is much streamlined, formatted, fit to the pages.
I still care for discussion and proofreading, even though it might partially be moot now. But ideas and pointing at mistakes always makes sense.

What I plan to do is upload an artless version of everything to Dropbox, including the cards with a black placeholder for images.
Of course I'll have my own version with art (*hint, hint).
When it is uploaded, feedback will be even more important. And playtesting. I'd love others to playtest.

Baby's first cards will be ordered from printerstudio this week.
A deck of Equipment cards in mini format. Let's see how those look. They don't have much text and the mini format is something I've been planning for the sake of space.
Not all cards will be possible to look as good as they should, so spells are probably gonna be regular format because of the longer texts.

I am thinking about exchanging my card sleeve provisoire with real cards as well. How big is mini format? Could you give feedback once you have them?

There's 44x67 mm and 44.5x63.5 mm.
I chose the latter.
I will give feedback once they arrive.

I find the biggest problem is spotting an error in your print files the day before the order is due to be delivered :P
