In HQ:HV, dual wield is a special ability that can be "bought" for gold only
and only by certain hero types.

I implement dual wielding, but to keep from overpowering the heroes, they make two separate attacks, and the off-hand attack suffers a -1 die penalty. Once they have lots of experience and have leveled up, they have the option to select a "perk" that will negate the penalty, but they'll be many Quests deep before they unlock that certain perk.

You are right they wouldn't. It is cheaper than 2 Longswords though but isn't diagonal attack. Same goes for why would the Dwarf or Elf ever buy the Broadsword when they could just get the Longsword instead.

My thing against the dual attack is they could clear all the monsters in a room before the EWP even gets a turn to attack. That is why I add the dice together.

Change the rules in quest notes to state that all monsters defend with White Shields. That dual wield is over powered issue goes out the window. Add in an extra Body Point in the quest notes for all monsters and the heroes will have a serious hardship.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

If they drink a Heroic Brew does that give them 4 attacks? Or is only 1 doubled to make 3?

All the Quests can be changed to Ogres.

Great question! I've thought about this before, and the way I'm going forward with it is that the dual wield ability is a BONUS attack that triggers off your basic attack. So an additional attack in a round (like from Heroic Brew) does not trigger a second bonus attack. In fluff terms, I think of it as a pretty combo move where they slash with the dominant hand sword, then hack with the off-hand, and finish with a strong thrust of the dominant.

"...before you attack" limits the effect to that next attack, "...two attacks instead of one" further specifies it to that one attack.
If you would have two attacks on one turn from the get-go and double the first, the second is unaffected and vice versa, so the highest amount of attacks per turn with Heroic Brew and Two Attacks is three.
My reading of the NA Heroic Brew card text. :2cents:

All Monsters defending with white shields is a big no for us. Only the short sword can dual wield, possibly the axe too. Giving 2 attacks, not combining the dice in 1 roll, now this doesn't obsolete the axe. With Heroic brew it's 3 attacks not 4. Easily the best way to go.

The idea is to add alternatives, not simply keep bumping stats.

One thing to keep in mind...if you allow dual wield, and a hero wants to drink a potion, they have to put one
of those weapons down or away and then drink the potion, and then get the weapon again. In my games, putting
a weapon down or away and picking is part of a turn...either a move action or they give up their attack or something
like that. And, remind me...does the card say the bonus attack is on their next attack, or during their next turn?
Because it would make a big difference.
