I like those cards! Are you planning to print them professionally? They are really cool!

Thank you, kind sir and yes, at our beloved printerstudio.
There's a big card format, 14.6x9.5 cm or something. That's where I'm headed.
The only problem there is the deck starts at 33 cards, I think.
As of now, I only need 8, so I have to wait ordering that deck until I have more heroes.
Also, methinks, monster cards will be in that format and some other stuff like trap, icon, and other keys for short reference.

My card backs, as a teaser:
How do I get these smaller? Anybody know? Or doesn't it really matter?
Original size is a whopping 44.5 x 63.5 mm.

Re: HQ: Heroes & Villains (knightkrawler) - DISCUSSION

Postby Gold Bearer » July 19th, 2016, 11:29 am

This is one of the topics I've been meaning to check out for ages but kept putting off because of the number of pages. I haven't read it probably yet but I definitely will. After a brief scan here's a coupe of thoughts.

I really like the idea of using variations of the heroes rather than whole new ones. That's something I kind of did but much more loosely than you have. I just grouped them together with similar classes.

I'm not sure about the name simply because it uses the same word twice. Heroquest: Heroes & Villains. It would sound weird if I weren't so used to the name heroquest. If you used so used to the heroquest name that you don't think about it sounds fine.

Having different searching decks for 1st and 2nd searches is interesting but I'd be a little concerned that searching becomes too prominent in the game as opposed to exploration and combat. It means if you've got spate searches for traps and secret doors each room needs to be searched four times (more if there's furniture) to be fully explored, it might slow things down a bit. I think a second search for treasure option with it's own card set would be great as a special skill rather than a general rule.

I really like some of the artwork you're using. I only have one of those pics, sorcery. Mind if I steal them? :D

I've just remembered that they can all search for treasure in the US rules so if you're used to playing it that way this is a huge improvement and will actually speed things up.

The searches: exactly. I was used to NA rules, thus I do see it as an improvement, also given that the 2nd search yields the better results on average.
The art: steal what you like, I stole them myself |_P

There's one thing missing before all is done and I can open my dropbox to all of you.
The fluff for the first questbook.
I hope I can get it done till the end of the week...

The game isn't called HeroQuest: Heroes & Villains, but
HQ: Heroes & Villains
Otherwise, it would indeed sound weird. It's a nod to the original, transferring it to a more mature background (the concept of what exactly are good and evil? will be a theme rather than the black & white patterns of the original kids' game).

by the way, if anyone can whip me up a beautiful logo for the title, keeping the HQ in the original gold letters on stone style, that would be awesome.
I tried, but I haven't found the talent to put the subtitle into a beautifully designed lettering.

These are an excellent collection of Hero Cards. Like GB, I also like the double-hero variation of the four canon Heroes (thanks, ghan!) It's clear to see you've put a lot of thought into them. I also like Hero Cards with useful character information on the back, so we'll done. Well, I'm (too?) late as usual, but I have a few individualized comments:

Marauder
"Morcar deserves you as his most furious enemy."--now that is some inspired fluff!
Questknight
Suggested change: "Apt in battle, armored in breastplate,... > Apt in battle and armored in a breastplate,...
Caerscout
Caerscout sounds good, but I had to look up caer. Is that a North American problem only?

Congrats on finishing up your rules set, by the way! |_P :cheese:

Thanks man!
It's never too late for feedback. In fact, the rolecards haven''t even been printed, so I can still consider your suggestions.
And caer... well, Earthdawn made me aware of the word. They changed the Galic writing I use to kaer, which as a linguist I like better, but avoided because there might be a IP issue.
Also, I don' wanna rip them off completely. After all, Earthdawn is one of the biggest influences on HQHV.
