[Tool] Custom Quest Template for Word

Postby Big Bene » December 6th, 2010, 11:26 am

Hi!

I did this little Word doc as a base to build Custom Quests onto.

You can download the data at:
http://www.rothoehler.de/QuestBook.doc
and
http://www.rothoehler.de/HQ.zip

Here's a screenshot:

Image

Instruction:
I used makros and custom toolbars to put in the map symbols etc, so makros must be activated (or the makro security set to "low").
You also need to unpack ("unzip") the folder HQ (now in HQ.zip) to the C:\ drive (root dirctory). It holds all the graphics etc.
Please make sure that the folder HQ must be directly in the root directory of the C: drive, like this:
C:\HQ
Your zip sofrware may produce a folder HQ with a second folder called 'HQ' inside it, which contains all the icons etc., like this:
C:\HQ\HQ
This won't work! In this case, copy the content from C:\HQ\HQ to C:\HQ.
Thanks to Zenithfleet for pointig out this bug.

The Heroquest fonts are supportet (in Word styles), so you should have installed them (it will still work without them, however).

The relevant menus for making the maps are all in a floating "Heroquest" custom panel. Actual mapmaking is described further in the helpfile, wich is opened by clicking the "help" button (white questionmark in blue circle) in the Heroquest panel.

You can find a video tutorial here.

Please tell me your opinion. Bug reports etc. are also welcome.

Have fun

Ben

And again!

It's mostly finished now, only two things left to do:
- programming a makro that automatically changes all "normal doors" to "orginal size" doors (see help file). As for now, I have no idea how to make this...
- Making all map icons available via the "Quest book" dialog, assorted by the quest books they orginall appered in, as opposed to category. E. g. an Ogre is now available in the menu Categories -> Monsters -> Ogres, but it should also be available at Quest Books -> Ogre Horde.
As I personall don't own all official Quest books, I'm not quite sure about this. Of course I could look up all symbols in the downloadable quest books here at the Inn, but it would be much easier for someone who is already firm in this matter. So any help would be much welcome.

Thanks for looking and a happy new year,

Ben

Ogres appear in Against the Ogre Horde. Ogre Warriors also appear in Mage of the Mirror.

Bene, you sure this doesn't work on Word 07? That's what I have and the stuff you sent me before seemed to work just fine.

I'm not sure, but I don't think... Tested it only on Word 2000, 2003 and 2010.
I make heavy use of custom toolbars, and as Word 2010 doesn't have a "toolbar" any more but this "ribbon" thingie, Ithought this was the problem.
And 2007 is much like 2010, as far as the menus are concerned...

I just double-checked. It definitely works in Word 2007. It creates a custom toolbar within the Add-Ins ribbon. All the icons and menus appear and you can populate the map with them. Meaning it will probably work on 2010 as well, but I'm unable to confirm that.

So am, I right in thinking that this word program is better and more complete than using Heroscribe, currently anyway?

What is the concensus on this?
