Has anyone heard from the author in awhile? Petronicus was last on the forum three months ago, hope he's okay...

Yes, Giles & Peter McNeill are far more active on the Ye Olde Inn Facebook Group, are posting regularly there - including new quests.

Yeah, I'm not sure if they'll be posting any more here, but they're definitely posting them all on the Facebook group. Volume 13 has just been released on Amazon, and Quests are being posted now for Volume 14.

In Book 1, Quest 3, if the Heroes manage to leave with the orb, do they derive any actual benefit from it?

It looks like there's nothing to be gained here apart from a quest point and whatever the treasure cards had to offer.
